Unable to see anything other crews do

I've had this problem since getting the game where I can't hear other crews in voice chat or text chat as well as ship names. At first I thought it was a problem with my audio settings but I can hear my crew and they can hear me. How can I fix this?

its been broken for me too i cant hear anyone unless they speak with the trumpet on whisper

Wait--I'm confused here. First you mention being unable to see anything other crews do but then your post discusses not being able to hear things other crews do. I would advise checking your various settings if you're having issues playing the game--both your video and sound obviously and ensuring they match your system's settings.

As for hearing in-game voice chat always keep in mind that if a different ship's crew is "properly" using the XBox Gamebar, Discord, or some other app for comms and they aren't using the in-game chat you won't be able to hear them anyway. Also, it's a good practice to check the Microsoft Store frequently because the apps in it are necessary for most SoT in-game functions to work correctly (ie. XBox, GameBar, etc.) as are Windows updates whether you use them frequently or not.

Fyi/Sidenote: If you're using one of those gaming headsets or a standalone mic please be kind enough to make sure your mic doesn't pickup your speakers to prevent echo/feedback because it's utterly abhorrent to be on the receiving end of that.

To clarify, I am able to hear my crew's voice chat as well as their text chat and vise verse but neither work for other players despite my settings enabling other crew voice and text chat. I'm not fully sure this is related but I player ship names don't show up for me as they actually are since all my crew mates can see their actual name and I'm shown a generic name
