Will safer seas ever be less punishing to play?
I get you want people to play pvp, but there are those of that can't like myself.
Im autistic and deal with seviere anxiety and other medical stuff, why does it have to be so restricting when i bought the game and just to have fun and enjoy a cool pirate game. I just dont understand why you have to be so extreme with reducing gold and experiences and features we share because we cant play pvp. what we do playing dont affect any pvp players so why do i feel like im being forced to play it.

I understand i cant have because its big player thingg like
  • Guilds
  • World Raids, i think its called.
because it's just me and a couple friends.
But I cant
  • My own ship
  • Buy deccorations
  • sell treasure and gold the same. i fought my way to it, and took the time to take it to my ship, and be attacked by skeletons and shark bruice the same.
but you left all micro transactions in there for me to buy and not be able to use?
i bough quite a few, and bought, but why bother when i cant use them.
sorry if i dont understand, but uoy got the money from our purchases, and the stats for us being active playing it, i know you all at rare worked really hard on this game but its still sales and active players. sorry if its conffusing to read, i have a hard time explaining what im thinking :/

I hope you all have a wonderful week, and stay safe :) :steamhappy:

It might be a great idea to expose yourself to anxiety-inducing games and remind yourself "none of this matters at all, there's nothing to be anxious about", and then after maybe you can apply it IRL.
Safer seas is so you can enjoy the game with your 5 year olds and have an easy going time, not to make money/farm exp.

Having that said. You should give High Seas a shot, OP. I'm pretty new to the game, but I tried out high seas because I wanted the full gold rewards, and I've only had one interaction with anybody. If someone starts griefing or harassing you you can simply leave and change servers. You can disable all communications with other crews at the touch of a button, there's an option for it in the keybinds.

I deal with a lot of social anxiety myself, but I wouldn't have had a chance to interact with people even if I wanted one. Almost everyone just steers clear of each other in my experience so far. I had one interaction, and of course it was a micspamming griefer, but I just hit the 'mute other crews' button and then we hopped servers.

If you can't handle it and stick to safer seas then that's fine of course, but if PvP is your specific concern it doesn't seem to happen all that much unless you go seeking it.
I had a pretty similar experience when starting out, everyone was chilling and minding their own business. All until I bought a captained ship and started running emissary flags for a small gold boost, then people began sinking me while I was a fighting skeletons on an island minding my own business. Or kegging my ship and spawn camping while I was trying to sell. I would say you are still in that grace period before they put you in the actual PvP server.
one thing for sure about this game is, when it'll die for good, it'll probly be more remembered as the most community split between its pvp/pve base than the game content itself.

I think it's just the Extremophiles and Rare that make it so bad. People who have an aneurysm at the very thought that a "filthy casual" should be able to enjoy their game.
And rare, who despite 6+ years of people asking for pve dug their heels in and said "no! You will play the game as we intend!" While also occasionally slipping the word freedom, or play how you want. Into their trailers. Which is fine, by all means you can have that stance, but you will always have people asking for pve in that case.
Even the toxic cess pit of a game that is rust has less toxicity and split community on the forums because they just, let you actually play how you like. PvP PvE PvPvE RP 2x 4x 10x. No one on rust is in the forums asking for a seat at the table because ... it's there for them.

Nice to see that some people still have the same persecution complex, even after getting their PvE mode.

What does the little tooltip that appears when you raise an emissary flag say again? Something about marking yourself as a valuable target? Eh, probably not important.

Yeah for sure, spawn camping a solo at an outpost while he is selling is def for the flag... Such high value that they didn't even bother to sell my loot or take my flag. :lunar2019crylaughingpig:
The things we do for a small rep/gold increase...

Just yesterday I had a Reaper Brig ram me and a fresh I was teaching while we were at an outpost, they spoke over their mics saying "they've got nothing" then they left us for about 3 minutes then they spent the following 5 minutes ramming our ship and laughing each time, game is Toxic AF but at least those Reapers weren't spamming the N word like crazy which happens in SoT more then in any other game I play TBH.
Something i see mentioned so many times by the people advocating against a less restricted SS mode is "there is less risk so there should be less reward". Sure, ok, i disagree with how much less reward there currently is but fine lets leave that where it is.

What about the things that dont have anything to do with how much gold you make? Captaincy for example, why cant we bring our own named ships into SS? With all the trinkets we get from the tall tales we run there and such? Limiting that just does not make sense to me... If the problem is that we would have access to the Soverigns that way, why not just disable the Soverigns like they disabled Athenas voyages and the Reapers?

Another note: Why are people so against having a entirely seperate less restricted PvE mode? You would still have the potential for far greater rewards in the High Seas, and naturaly things that are designed to be competed over (like this new siren competitive voyage) would not (and should not) excist in SS. If the goal is to make people want to move from SS to HS, maybe try making HS and PvP seem more appealing rather than make SS feel LESS appealing. Unique rewards and competitive content like this siren voyage are great things for making people WANT to try out HS, you dont need to be like: "We made SS feel unrewarding to make you want to play HS". People that dont want to do PvP, but would still like to try out the game, only have that SS option... and if you make that option very unappealing you are driving people away from the game in its entirety, and you are most certainly not funneling additional people into HS.

My thoughts, anywho, i anticipate the gatekeepers yelling at me now.

I see why some rare loot shouldn't be in the SS and maybe even the Blue and Gold Coins the name escapes me atm but those two coins shouldn't be there but normal Coin shouldn't be restricted as the best items in the game cost the blues and golds, also just f'n make a PVE mode like ppl ask Devs at this point the Devs are also trolls listen to half of your players, and the ppl that only want PVP are mostly imo at this point just trolls you got some good eggs but mostly its @ holes that spam racial slurs and if you win call you a cheater or twitch l0$er$ that go "watch me sink this spawn with an Athena Keg and they got mad lols" game is toxic AF is my point.
330+ hours , I literally never experience “toxic” behavior in this game.

One time we were fighting guys and when we got close we could hear them talking in proximity chat , they were yelling curse words in Spanish.

All of the toxic behavior I see stems from folks on these boards demanding elements of the game be changed, and being rude and disrespectful to devs , moderators, and other players.

Image praising your game for enabling this kind of thing to happen. This is how new players get turned off and refund or never play again.

Praising? Enabling? Letting it happen?

Help me understand. Are you suggestion there should be no way to interact with other players? Like no voice chat? Or no pvpve? Is that how it’s being enabled ?

Like maybe you shouldn’t be able to crash your boat into someone else? Or maybe shouldn’t be able to play sandbox pvpve games on Steam?

Do you think the guy complaining about the gold skeletons is being reasonable?

Do you think you are being reasonable?

I'm glad I'm not easily dissuaded from doing things I enjoy, or I would've stopped playing myself. My only encounter with another player was someone being a micspamming troll. No big deal, easy to mute and move on, but like.. That's what Rare is so caught up on making me experience? Not ship battles, or getting ambushed, or running away with my loot, just a playground for someone who wanted to be annoying and try to induce headaches.
