Can you return to earlier planets?

I'm on the second "level" of the game and there seems to be a lot of things here that i can't interact yet, so can i return here later on or something

you can come back to any planet at any point when you go back to the ship and pick a destination

In fact, once you finish Zeffo's trial and get the ability from there, go back to the earlier parts of that same planet to get an upgrade for BD-1. Then go back to Bogano, the first planet you go to. You'll have new places to access now with the newly gained abilities. You'll find a neat little surprise on a workbench you find in one of those new areas (not the one you likely found the first time through, this second one was inaccessible at that point)
