FPS drops and stutter fix
For those having the same issue try enabling vsync, that fixed all the problems for me

I was having drops to 20 30 fps and now the game runs butter smooth and fps are locked at my refresh rate, also my case is not overheating anymore. The difference is unbelivable, the game is much much better now...

System:
i5 4690k
16gb Ram
Gtx 1070
1080p 75hz

I managed to make the stuttering better (but not eliminate it) by:

1. In the nvida control panel, set the vsync mode to "Fast". Not sure if AMD has a similar setting, vsync off will probably have the same effect (but with some tearing).
2. In game, limit the FPS to 60.

This has my CPU sitting around 70% and makes th stutter problem a lot better. If 60 fps isn't worker for you, try a lower number (but with the obvious consquences).

Totally agree. Fast Sync is excellent. I have no problems with it. Samsung 4K 40" TV, 8600K@4.6 GHz, Strix GTX1080TiOC11, 16 GB of 3200 RAM. Set the FPS at 60 and you can't go wrong.

Just once or twice dropping out of hyperspace into orbit will drop the framerate down to 40 or so. Not often, though.

For those who this is still an issue, I found this link and applying some of the fixes I was able to run the game without any issues, hope this help someone as it helped me.

That was exactly what helped me in the end! Fold@Home must be paused and suddenly I can play fluidly on 60FPS on my mediocre machine. Thanks !

This game was only really optimized for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One at 30 frames per second... another poor console port
no i have a 3700x and a 2060 super and the game lags when loading new assets like after exiting an elevator or going to a new area for me

That would defeat the purpose of having a high refresh rate Gsync monitor. While this probably would function as a workaround, I rather (and hope) they fix this game properly.

Only the first planet is giving me trouble around the ship area. I also have a 1080Ti. It is not really that bad, unless I'm thinking about it and looking at RTSS. Mine drops to 60-ish. Normally it runs about 100+ While it doesn't sound like much of a problem, the game does freeze for a fraction of a second when it does this.
yes i get like 90 fps at 1440p and it drops to like 50 and freezes and stutters for a few seconds and then I stop lagging. But it's pretty weird to be honest like why does only this game stutter on my PC.

Honestly I'm fairly certain its a buffer issue with streaming from the hard drive. It's like they never bothered to increase some throughput for pcs with faster hard drives than the ancient consoles have.

They did just give the console versions updates to improve performance which probably means they now have them taking advantage of the nvme drives in the new consoles.

Lets hope they show the PC version a little love too as this is a game I really enjoy coming back to.

A lot of people claim to have all sorts of weird fixes for the issue but like most games with memory leaks/streaming issues they're probably just 'fixing' it by doing a fresh restart of the game. I've noticed it helps on this game. If you notice a lot of micro stutter just restart the game.

Also, with how long and popular these threads are about stutter you'd think the developer would take notice and see if they cant fix the issue!

The PS5/Series X version of this game just released (these consoles have blazing fast SSDs) and as you can see in this DF video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwJDb_8O1wY

It still has those buffering/streaming stutters. So either the problem lies somewhere else (unlikely) or the developers just didn't bother to fix/improve it (likely).

Anyway, I came here to see if this issue had been fixed and was disappointed to learn it hasn't

If it's like most Unreal games, disable streaming checks in-between level loads, removing Smoothing framerate, installing on SSD, using Borderless Fullscreen, FreeSync/Gsync and maybe DXVK could probably fix all kinds of stuttering.
i's insane the amount of excuses i keep reading on these threads, game is great. too bad it runs like dirt

This games is getting a makeover for next gen consoles, so perhaps they'll address the asset streaming issues for that. Current gen consoles all suffer with the same problem so it's definitely engine related and not hardware.

Let's hope so

Hi there,
thanks for the tip. Enabled Vsync with 60 fps cap and game runs on ultra smooth like butter now. (Previously i was running over 90 in avg but with noticable stutter every now and then)

Cheers!

Game has a great asset loading issues. On HDD is nearly unplayable, on SATA SSD better, but still far from perfect, on NVME SSD (about 3500 MB/s read speed) it's almost good. Most of the streaming stutter is gone, but not all of it. I play it within the specs, hugh settings, capped to 60 fps, even if CPU and GPU canrun it at about 90fps - I've capped it to give it some headroom and smooth out the dips. Even then, they occur. That's the part of the game unfortunately.

I run an i7-11800 / 16G RAM / GTX 3060 (6G) and the stutters...until I STOP using a bluetooth Xbox controller and zero stutter. A wired controller fixes the issue for me.
