Lightsaber upgrade *non-story spoiler*
SPOILER WARNING.

edit: pretty cute how the spoiler tags don't extend to the thread preview on mouse over.

I like how the double bladed lightsaber is a toggle, that is cool, but I it seems to me they are forcing it to be a situational tool. It seems better for deflecting blaster shots, but while I'm still early in the game, it seems even worse at fighting literally anything else so far. Just by activating your extra beam, your attacks do literally like half damage.

I personally found fighting two melee opponents at the same time quite a bit harder with both blades than with a single blade. The terrible amount and damage and guard damage you do just freaking sucks. I have a feeling that people who really dig that style will be a bit disappointed. Feels more like a tool than another weapon upgrade, IMO.

For those of you farther along with more skills unlocked, what is your impression?

See, and I am the reverse. For me the single blade seems kinda meh, whereas the double just fits me quite well. One thing that is easy to note is that it builds force rather quickly due to its increased number of strikes if you have the passive to gain force even if an opponent blocks. Its heavy attack is comparable to the single blade heavy, and is very good at crowd control. Another key thing, is that if you unlock the heavy combo, the damage is comparable to single blade as well, but is more rapid despite leaving you open. The single blade and double blade are both functional in the game, but people have different preferences and what I have found is that switching between the two midcombo actually is VERY effective against enemies that like to try and parry you. They just... Can't really deal with the change and it can be great to mix it up. I have found that incorperating BOTH into my fighting style has covered the weakness of eachother and ultimately, I think that is how they intended it to be.

Well, as you're mentioning fighting 2 melee opponents, I have to say that the double blades shine more when you're fighting more opponents than that :p

Also - there are skill upgrades that make it an even better area weapon (for example, the R2+R2 attack). And finally, there's skill unlocks (both purchased in the skill tree and later on unlocked through the story) that will give it (and the single blade) more tricks to its sleeve.

I found myself using exclusively the single blade for a good part of the game, until I unlocked those, then I found myself switching between both mid-combat quite regularly!
