Assuming you are using your controller via bluetooth, here's what I do for UE4 games:

1. Right click the game in your Steam library and select Properties
2. Under 'Steam Input Per Game Setting' set it to Forced Off
3. Download and install DS4Windows[github.com] This is a continually updated version
4. Once you have your controller connected and working make a default profile
5. Go to Controls on the left, then Other on the right.
6. Make sure Use 'Dinput Only' is unchecked
7. Under controller select DualShock 4
8. In Settings make sure Hide DS4 controller box is unchecked

Of course make sure no other controller is turned on. The game should now use the DS4 buttons. I use this in Code Vein and it works here too, so I'm assuming all games that use UE4 will work this way.

Not working for me. The UI glitches out and switches between the KB/M and DS4 UI really fast. Unplugged mouse and keyboard to make sure I wasn't getting input from them, still happened.

Sorry to hear. I have no idea how to fix that or what causes it. Are there any ghost inputs in DS4Windows? If not then problem isn't the controller or software. Might be drivers. I'd look through the device manager and see if there's anything that could be conflicting, but that's just me. Be careful messing around in there

In the Other tab, on the right side. Look near the bottom and you'll see something that says Controller.

By default I think it's set to Xbox 360. Honestly I don't know if this matters, I'm just giving you guys my own settings.

Just got my bluetooth receiver today, this worked like a charm. Appreciate it!
Hey glad I managed to help someone out. I also learned recently this works for Ubisoft games like Watch Dogs 2 as well
This works really nice. Didn't know about this fork of DS4Windows.

But I have a question: In the game the touchpad is set to open the map, but in DS4Windows I can only configure the touchpad as a mouse or as multiple buttons. Does anyone have an idea how to get this working?

This worked. Thank you!

Sure I can take screenshots. I'll do it later today

THIS. You rock! Thank you so much!
works fine, but rumble no longer works.
It's been a long time so I can't remember if rumble worked or not for me. I use this method for RDR2 and rumble does not work the same way for the DS4 as it does for the Xbone controller in that game, so you're probably right.

I guess using DS4Windows this way is a trade off between having PS4 icons and rumble features

BRO, this worked like a charm. Anyone reading this in August 2020, this solution works for wireless bluetooth DS4. Step 7 was confusing for me, but there is a picture this guy posted in this thread, just look in here for it. I was indeed running an outdated version of DS4 windows (even though when i told it to check for updates, it said it was current...if anyone has this happen, just redownload the files from the OP. Worked perfectly). I cant thank you enough. Its SO annoying that we even have to deal with this crap. A bunch of unnecessary red tape just to be an inconvenience for people who WILL find a way around your horses**t no mater what. Why cant this just work without all this drama? Anyways, thank you for the guide on this fix.
