Combat feels clunky, controls feel off
In general it's not a bad game, but the controls feel clunky and poor. As if someone had an idea of how the controls should be, but just couldn't get it quite right.

And maybe it's because I just played the Batman Arkham games, but the combat in the Batman games feels so much more dynamic and streamlined in comparison to this game, where it's so easy to get caught in enemies doing unbreakable combos. In fact, it kinda seems like there was put more work into enemy combat combos and animations than player combat animations and combos, and more often than not, fights end up being hit once, jump out of reach, jump back, hit once, hit n run tactics, leaving the few combat combos that the player has access to more or less useless in actual combat.

It's just a shame, cause the game has massive potential, and hopefully the next Star Wars action game will be less clunky and have improved upon all these shortcomings, just like combat in the Batman Arkham games improved drastically from the first game to the 4th.

I believe it’s meant to be played somewhat like Sekiro, where you parry attacks, and get hits in while they aren’t attacking. However, the way parrying works in the game makes parrying combos harder than it should be.

The combat is heavily influenced by Dark Souls, which does have a bit hit-n-run to it, at least for bosses. I notice people used to more hack-n-slash action games tend to find the souls’ games more slow and deliberate attacks clunky at first. That being said the combat in this, while close, definitely doesn’t feel quite as polished as those games.

I can definitely see what you mean with the Dark Souls inspired combat. And I think it's fine if people want an avoidance game where you spend most of combats rolling around on the floor and trying to get a perfect parry by clicking at the exact correct milisecond. And it might just be me getting old and my reactions getting too slow, but even on the 2nd difficulty of the game, it feels like I have barely any time at all to react, and I do have to react to pretty much all attacks, since it doesn't take long into the game before most enemies more or less use unblockable attacks most of the time. It ends up with a game where the skills you can get from the skill tree are pretty much useless because they either require you to hold a button, click a button after another for a combo, and there's no time for that before you get interrupted by unblockable enemy attacks.

So the problem to me seems like on one hand, they wanted a game with combat inspired by Dark Souls, and on the other hand they wanted combat inspired by the Batman games, and it ends up being a clunky hybrid.

You ever notice how the jedi runs in this game? His ankles look broken and his underpants look full of poop and he knows its full of poop but he still runs kind of bull legged. IT looks off to me.
The combat feels clunky to me but only because the game runs so poorly. Dark souls never lagged, the combat was more fluid because there wasn't some built in blur lag to the game then the famour stutter lag lol. This game looks gorgeous but it probably won't run right on any pc till 2024.. Then all the bad coding and optimizations won't matter becuase 2024 hardware will be way faster and you won't notice it.
And why did they make the jedi such a pu$$y fart? Its bad enough hes a ginger crouton but we also have to deal with his soy filled testicles that lack testosterone?

I found the combat good tbh, I never played any Dark Souls before though.
It does rely heavily on block/parry/evade/dodge and knowing each enemy's moves .. reminds me of older AC games and Darksiders also.

Also remember to use the Force.

Basically you can't use your upgraded force powers, because that requires you to hold down buttons for a time, and once you get a bit into the game, there's simply no time to do anything else than parry and block, and just hope that you can do a few follow-up hits after a perfect parry, not to mention that a lot of enemies spam unblockable moves. (How can you not block an enemy with a lightsaber? If someone ran into you and you held up your lightsaber, wouldn't they just impale themselves?).
Which brings me to the actual lightsaber. It looks good, but a lot of the time I really wanted to just pick up the weapons of my enemies, cause those weapons just seemed better. The lightsaber feels like a glowy wooden staff that can deflect some laser shots (not the unblockables), so why can't I just pick up one of those stun-batons that seem to hurt a lot more, so I, as a JEDI, could perhaps get to do some unblockable attacks of my own?

I have missed a good Jedi game for a long time, basically since KOTOR and the Jedi Knight games, and to be quite fair, Jedi: Fallen Order does not even come close to living up to those games.
Agree so much with you chalk. +1

They went for souls like rather than hack'n'slash. Even then the combat is very wavy, lack of contact feedback, mediocre at best. BF2 lightsaber combat is a lot better than this.

I hope they dont stick to the slow souls like style for the next game, and rather be more to the likes of dmc, or its a no buy for me.

I know this is coming in late, but I also find the combat unpolished and honestly kind of boring. It's basically 90% avoiding getting hit. Also, the character reaction times seem poor. Compare this to Shadow of Mordor. Not only does the character not feel like it's slow but the combat and the way the abilities stack is just super exciting.

Yeah, it feels very weird compared to other games. Parrying in particular feels god awful, even on the highest difficulties it should not be so difficult for the wrong reasons. I am never find myself going "did I miss?" instead I constant debate if the input was read at all. It feels like I parry when I meant to block and when I try to parry, even if I hold the button afterwards they just swing right through me.

EDIT: ALSO I JUST NOTICED THE DUMBEST THING. Why, in the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ did ANYTHING decide "hey... you know if enemies get parried. THEY SHOULD HAVE A COUNTER ATTACK!" I parried one of the things on Dathomir and went to wack it and it has a followup attack to getting parried! It does this weird sudden arm sweep EVERY TIME it get's parried. WHY. WHY AM I BEING PUNISHED FOR CORRECTLY DOING A MECHANIC!? WTF!

Also, the dev's do not know wtf a lightsaber is. WHY are enemies not taking damage from making bare handed contact with the blade that can cut through metal like butter!?

I think a lot of AAA games have the weirdest idea for how a person actually sprints, pivots in place to change direction, and generally moves as a human being.

I totally agree. It's a poor man's souls. The second game with full price is easy pass if the combat doesn't get better.

Do I really have to read this?
Are you really blaming the game because you have to react to another attack if you parry?

Stay away from Sekiro then.
