I was looking at this and am curious myself. I have an origin account as only certain games I like are released to. Pretty sure I grudgingly have an EA account only because it was required somewhere but when it is required since then I don't have to do anything just automatically gets the info it needs. When I play on steam of course but I only game here anyways.

Oh wait, ah yes EA/Origin is one and has been for a while I forgot this. I am afraid it looks it but I will let you know. Good luck!

i have the same question, does anyone know the answer. it is like the ubione, where you have to go through the launcher?

ill guarantee it as origin wouldn't allow it otherwise

Right on the store page:

Incorporates 3rd-party DRM: EA on-line activation and Origin client software installation and background use required.
Requires 3rd-Party Account: EA Account (Supports Linking to Steam Account)

Yes, you need to install Origin.

Yes, you need to install Origin and everytime you play the game it'll boot up Origin along with it. It's annoying but that's what it is.

Requiring Origin is why I don't own this game.

If you are still holding the Steam only guns in 2020...you are probably going to be hurting soon. Every publisher wants their own distrubution platform and more and more are launching them. I gave up on being Steam only a couple years back and now own games on Steam, Origin, Windows Store, Good Old Games, Amazon, and even that thing that Bethesda uses now. It really is not a big deal. I would have missed out on a lot of games, or good prices on games, if I rused to mess with it. To each their own, but...I am just saying try it. You will find it is not at all hard to manage. Not even something I ever think about. I see the game, I buy the game, I play the game...the only platform I refuse to buy on is that horrible thing Ubisoft has (though I have an account so I can play a Ubisoft game purchased elsewhere).

All that said...this game is one I wish didn't have. It kind of sucks, but I missed the playtime window for a refund. I mean it is OK...it is just more jumping off walls than swinging a light saber and it rewards diligence with a different color poncho that doesn't affect combat or mobility in any way. I am glad I got it on a good sale. So if you want to branch to Origin...wait for the next title.

It's not that I want to be Steam only, but if I buy this here I'd have to have Steam and Origin running in the background right? I made that mistake when I bought Farcry Primal here. If I play that game, Steam and the Ubisoft launcher has to be running which is dumb. If I buy this game it will be through Origin or on a console.

Why dumb? Your antivir is running in the background too, or do you turn it off while playing?

Yeah, it is dumb that they can't have Steam do a one time hand off that you bought the game and then have it on your Origin account. However, I bought it here on Steam since it was a nice sale here...sales are more rare on Origin for some dumb reason even though EA is one that decides the price steam sells it at. Why they seldom match on prices is beyond me.

The back ground tasks are no big deal and the game still runs with both Steam and Origin in offline line mode (which makes it even more dumb that they require both if they aren't even actively checking something anyway). Though don't be too concerned about back ground tasks...on modern CPUs you could be running thousands of thing similar to steam and origin while running a game and not notice a performance hit.

EA is a terrible company. They are consistently rated as one of the worst companies in the world to work for. They buy development companies and bury them. Bullfrog, makers of the Dungeon Keeper series, was so promising until EA bought the company, and now Dungeon Keeper is some monetized, micro-transaction pile of ♥♥♥♥ on mobile devices. I loved that series, and it isn't nearly the only series EA has destroyed.

And don't forget that EA raised their prices outside the US on old games when they put them back on Steam.

But that's just EA as a company. I gave Origin a chance a few years ago because a friend told me that Dragon Age: Origins was on sale. Bought it, played about 20 hours, and then the game started crashing, over and over. Emails with an EA rep went like this:

"This is what's happening..."
"You're playing Dragon Age: Origins, aren't you?"
"Yep."
"We know about this problem, but we don't know why it happens and we can't fix it. Sorry."

I bought ONE game on Origin, and I can't even play it. Over 180 games on Steam with zero problems.

But the real issue? EA thought it could build a Steam wannabe and compete. It couldn't, so after years of failing, they came crawling back. And yet, after all that, they still force us to install their ♥♥♥♥♥♥ wannabe in order to play the games we buy on Steam?

Nope. I was gonna buy this game if it didn't require Origin. Looks like my EA boycott continues.
