You're only calling her backstory Mary Sue, not even using the word correctly, and cliche because she brought Vader to his knees.
Cere was always meditating on the ship if you ever bothered to talk to her. Her last words after trying to talk to her about 3 times or when the talk button stops showing up usually would be able needing time to herself so she can meditate.
I reckon its the amalgamation of the American dream.
All in all, I wouldn't get hung up on this, just like I wouldn't take anything Warhammer: 40k seriously. It's all basically fluff meant to excite.
And she's far from being a Ma-Rey Sue. She has flaws, made mistakes--hardly a Ma-Rey Sue by the actual definition.
