The solution for that is really simple - Make the visual customization separate from the stats.
AC: Odyssey does this and it's great. The Agamemnon armor set looks like ass, but I was in love with its stat bonuses so I just made it look different.
There's no valid reason why lightsaber augments shouldn't just work the same way.
The absence of this means you can't build into any particular play style (outside of the skill tree, which sucks), and those 'tables' you find lying around are worthless. It makes exploration feel pointless, and cheapens the entire experience.
Honestly, this game would be an 8 or 9 out of 10 with lightsaber customization, and it's like a 7 without.
At a fundamental level, lightsabers hit things and deflect blaster bolts. Stat customization would only change the numbers, putting pointless level scaling garbage into the game
Wide / narrow beam for better AOE vs single target damage. What about a saber crystal that caused burn damage over time?
Building into blaster deflection or saber toss damage at the cost of melee damage would be interesting too.
Y'know, like just having some options about how you wanna play?
I don't think level scaling means what you think it means.
I would be all for a star wars rpg that had more customization and action combat like this, but this game never set out to be an rpg. It is an action game, like JK series.
Except the lightsaber in JK was lethal. In this game you may as well be smacking dudes with a stick.
I wouldn't care about stat augments if it was godlike straight out of the box
well that isn't how they designed it. Yea JK was more realistic in the sense that one hit you are done, which if lightsabers were real that would be the case.
They wanted to drag out combat for you to utilize parry/timing like you would in a spar or a actual duel. Yea duels could be won in one hit but not always. They wanted to make an action fighting game where you progress as a padawan to a young jedi. which i think they did a good job portraying.
I still like the JK games more than this one, but i always will, unless they do a complete remake of JK no game will win over those for me. But this game is lots of fun. and a game with the customization that many are wishing was there would be fun too.
I just take it for what it is, an action star wars game that is fun.
There could be a great game here but it really is just 'go the path we insist you go and fight in a predetermined way' Stuff was old in 2009, very dated now.
To pull from your Assassin’s creed example.
You already have this with the single vs dual blade lightsaber. The rest is just bigger and smaller numbers
