Must BD-1 ALWAYS stay on Cal's shoulder?

Believe me: the answer to this question will literally make me buy this game, or not.
Personally I don't like BD-1 that much, but must of all I hate the fact that it's always on cal's back/shoulder.
Does anyone know if it possible to 'make it go away' or to somehow take it off from cal's back?

From what was shown in the trailers so far, in some scenes he isn't present on Cal's back probably because it's a boss battle or plot reasons. Not sure if there's an option to make him follow you instead of being on you but I hope there is. I didn't see any Respawn devs here so imo it's better to ask on reddit/twitter and hopefully get a more accurate answer.

You get to control him at certain times and he's NOT always with the main character. Think of it as Ratchet and Clank.

He'll hop off to point out things as well of course when activating things or when you're in control but don't think you'll have any chance to just hide him away during normal play

I like that he's there, I like when rpg-s let you have a pet :) Makes you not feel alone.

I think it's cute (certainly doesn't detract in any way from the game for me). But, I don't think you can just get rid of it at will. I can see where that could be a desirable option for a lot of players though.

Yes he must stay on the shoulder.
