Why subscription?

If we're paying $40 for a game, we don't want to pay for a subscription to keep playing, it's a literal waste of money plus you'll get more money the more players you have

Closed beta has no sub.. once the game goes public on steam it will

I actually dont like sub model
But not for any of the reasons I see here

I'd rather buy a game and play it
Not feel like I kinda get to play/access it all until I pay a sub after already paying for the game

I also play many games, I dont want to feel tied to one like I have to because I'm paying for the full access to it all
with the sub only dailies n missions, and events (I'm not saying there is or isnt going to b this)

Many different models can be done right
The one I see alot of ppl talk about are the "cosmetic" shops
Here's the thing, if it's giving you an advantage then its not a cosmetic
And what you are looking at is not a cosmetic shop if that's the case

There's also the battlepass
I actually havent played or paid that much attention to these as they dont pop up in most games i play
There's the one from Archage Unchain - no idea how it worked
Same goes for Apex

But one game that does it right - Fortnite. Ya ya, its not your favorite game, and you hate it bcuz you get your butt whooped in it and then call it a "bad game"
I actually havent played it in many many seasons ago
But once your done getting mad at the sight of it's name
Pay attention to how it's not p2w in the slightest
It's got extra things to do, fun events & rewards

I could see profession quests, new npcs for them
Sends you out to empty parts of land to do events

Think Easter Egg Hunts, that's a bad one since its long gone lol
So mayb something like finding pumpkins that randomly spawn
Anywhere from just behind the stable to right where u can barely see it in that tall grass
Scarecrow/Horror/Halloween enemies, etc.

Xmas delivery/expedition with other players (or against) to a mountain to the north
Once empty but now its "Santa's" "north pole" or something
(fake santa n fake NP btw, replace them with vikings or something if u rly think it could ruin the immersion lol)

It's not going to blow your mind most of the time, that's what the base game, the players, and community is for
I mean don't forget its FULL LOOT PVP, that should make anything outside the walls that much more exciting as well create a reason for ppl to interact with each other
Whether this means attacking one another on expeditions (mayb even a betrayal between 2 gruops??) or working together to take out scarecrows or the Halloween boss who's wrath you've summoned

But it'll definitely a fun choice to have
It'll be an option to support the game
And the more ppl like the game, the more inclined they are to want to support it

This way it doesn't feel like its forced or the game is limited until they pay a sub, they can play the game, like it, support it
As well as come back w/e they take a break
Instead of a player either buying sub or quiting/never even trying the game at the sight of it

N if they don't like it, it won't from no access for the full thing until they cough up more dough, or bcuz they paid for sub n (still) don't like it for X reason
Leaving players feeling ripped off is currently what the MMOs called bad by the community have in common

The devs have a badass patch schedule, and plan to continue to grow and deliver improved content. It's an investment, keeping the devs employed, so the game keeps going long term.

The developers are scammers, they don't deserve anything other than a failed game. They promise all these things, and then don't deliver, so they come up with ways to angle shoot there customers.

It's so gross. I was promised a finished game, unlimited beta/alpha access, with a month of sub time for $50.

But what the developers changed this into, is I paid $50, to play part of a beta, then they change the name beta into early access, and ask me to pay $15 per month to beta test a game, they should be hiring professionals to test, all while denying me the privilege of even playing the game in a completed state, unless if I pay more money.

Like seriously. Biggest scam I've ever fallen for. Never gonna trust an Indie developer again, these guys steal $50 from me like it's no big deal and don't even have the decency to remedy the issue or offer a refund.

It's pathetic. If people wanna play this game and support scammers, so be it, but I'm not going too, and I'm going to make all the appropriate complaints regarding this, in an attempt to get my money back.

This has just turned into a rant thread.

The main reason for the sub is to maintain the game's economy. Even if you sell cosmetic only items, these will drop on death. Therefore, cosmetic paid items will affect value distribution across items.

You could get around this by only showing the cosmetic effects for you only, but this defeats the purpose of cosmetic items. Or you could strip cosmetic aspect from item on death, but again this limits their appeal.

StarVault have a very clear idea about how they want the game to work and are willing to forfeit profits in order to maintain that vision (not saying I agree with this). I think if they could come up with a monetization system that avoided a monthly sub, they would probably do it, as long as it doesn't change the way the game is designed to play.

Oh I'm sorry, we change name from beta to "early access", and all of a sudden we can charge a monthly sub fee for beta access that someone already paid for, and it's somehow fine.

Anyways, enjoy being angle shot by a greasy company if you want I guess.
