Best spear/shield infantry build?
The main question is: do spears have weak spots?
If yes then is Veela a viable option for a foot spear build? Or a Thursar-Khurite maybe to max dex?
If not then the only choice seems to be Thursar-Kallard, right?
Sadly, no race has a spear bonus. I mean Thursar seems to work better with swords.

No weakspot for spear, but I think Veela is the best option because of their speed and maneuverability. Thursar is a bit slow but a very heavy hitter and can use powerful longbows if you go Kallard. Oghmir are quite slow but tanky, and their pipe is nice for emergency healing.

From what I have seen it doesn't really matter what clade you choose. They all have advantages.

Alverin - Can run away from zergs and chase mages down.
Human - Can gain reputation quickly and has strong clade gifts.
Ogmir - Tanky as ♥♥♥♥ with lots of strength
Thursar - Hits really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hard but has trouble with reputation.

I thought Veela is purely weak-spot-hit-and-run-dagger-archer option. And you say one can kite with spear as Veela, right? I like dex builds in games but in MO2 it seems that the stronger and tougher the better in melee.
Thus, I guess that Thursar-Kallard is the best option here, but then again it has a bonus to swords and axes.
All of the above leads me to a Thursar-Kallard sword/spear/shield where sword is for duelling and spear for mounts and crowd control.

I guess the game has a “you can screw up from the very beginning” reputation, and I kinda fell for that :)
Usually, I create several chars to test some builds but MO2 is limited to one character per account as for now.
I also like spears very much. And I am more or less aware of the popular builds but I can’t figure out what a spear build may look like. There is no obvious advantage for spears in any of the races present.

Spears can weakspot, but only as a max dex veela and even then it's rare. You cannot build for weakspots in spears.

my best build would be

oghmir age 30 blain blain
123 str
87 dex
132 con
-int
-psy

height +2cm over the smallest height possible
stout weight.

the reason is you're smaller than a veela, so when the shield is on and your spear equipped you get a ton of equipment hits.

You have a crack pipe for instant heals and bandages to support yourself as well.

You seem slow but due to the 393 stamina you have you'll keep up with people well, also you run at 417 in combat.

+6kg armor weight = either going super heavy tank or more stam regen in heavier armors.

massive carry weight, and the best part is:

you get a passive clade that functions as another defensive stance, a passive -3 damage to most damage types, you get 2 active clades, one boosts your armor up 1 grade so heavy carapace will function as steel, steel as tungsteel, etc for 10 seconds (maybe 15).

then you have rock solid, standing still you take HALF damage. it doesn't cancel when you move either, you just stop for the full benefit. This is especially helpful when fending off MA's with your longbow or full diving a group, or waiting for heals while being dove.

works well in pve, pvp, in all situations really, the only downside is you can't chase veelas unless they are stupid, but you got a bow?

And lets not forget dem sexy beards too.

This build can also function as a MA or MC and can swap between all weapon types while still retaining usefulness in case you get bored of spear fighter.

Why do I see a lot of spears? As a PVP game you want more options, spear has thrust and that's about it... No real slashing attack at all, so doesn't directional attack from a spear seem void? Seriously asking, Did I miss something?

Easy to use in mass PVP, easy to chase enemy, easy to control distance. Easy to not hit friends. But its not a duel wep.

Humans are skill kings. They have the most skill points to allocate across the board, because they can max out nearly 4 of 5 attributes even though most attributes peak around 100. That means they can fit more into their builds and easily cover the broadest range of crafting skills. Due to all the skill bonuses from clades and attributes, they also skill up the fastest since they usually don't have to do the last 10 to 30 points of a skill (which are the most difficult).

Spears are only really useful in group PvP.. as they only really have one attack that does any damage thrusting.. in 1v1 people will counter it quite easily as they just block down all the time..

But yeah in group combat you can sneak a ton of damage in and can be s lot of fun..

This is a good point.
I eventually made a 204cm Thursar-Kallard to save some points for actives.
It seems to work ok but I noticed that a heavy shield on a Thursar looks more like a buckler :)))
I thought of picking a Huergarr but I won't under any circumstances play as Blainn. It's just too much fur for me :)))

As for spears on the whole, I know they have their certain disadvatages but I just like them :)
