so having blinders on increases "immersion"? you cannot see to your left and right in combat making the game turn into flailing matches where you constantly flip your character left and right as someone tries to stay out of your field of view. It is a terrible game design choice.
The massive and I do mean massive difference, Counter Strike, deals with mostly firearms and fighting at a distance, with the occasional knife kill.
This game, deals with mostly melee combat with some people using bows.
When you have people moving around you at around arms length trying to hit you and you are trying to hit them. It is very difficult to know exactly where they are because you have no peripheral view of them and they move to your side or rear, it is especially a problem in group fights.
When they are at a distance such as in Counter Strike or other FPS games People tend to be at much more of a distance and you tend to trade shots back and forth, you can keep them in your line of sight. People really complain about melee weapons in first person shooter games, because it can be a real challenge to kill someone that is dancing around you swinging a knife, especially if they are fast.
People are not standing in front of you trading blows in this game, they are constantly circling, jousting, and trying to get into your blind spot, and that happens to be most of the area around you since your FOV is like 90 degrees in front of you, leaving 270 degrees to your sides and back.
In reality your FOV should be 190 degrees leaving only 170 behind you (this is all without moving your eyes or head at all)
if you change the FOV in game, you get a weird fisheye style view and combine that with motion blur it becomes very annoying to deal with when you are trying to keep track of multiple people in a fight. I believe the most you can change the FOV is to 110 degrees, and it pulls the camera back a touch and bends what you see a bit, if the developers do much more the fisheye effect gets way worse.
if you prefer to play in "1st person" or "3rd person" just change the option, I played "MO1" with fov MOD for some time, until you got bored!
perspective each one will have his, 1st, 3rd, VR, good DEVs understand and offer the content to attract more players and maintain a community always active and functional.
Unlike what happened with "MO1" which was left with lots of empty pastures!
it really was a shame because in the case of "MO1" it was ALMOST a 100% original idea, already the 2 ... Today there are several MMOs and games in Survival style that offer building options and everything else.
Ahaha lol i bet they do !
but certainly the DEVs have already thought about all this :P
maybe one day make a MOD for 3rd person!
big FPS like Borderland can be players with mode, without losing the experience provided by the game, with any luck the "MO2" can be like that ^^
To me a big part of the MMORPG experience is being able to see and identify with the character you play being able to physically see how they've progressed by the armor & weapons they wear and other effects you can only see from an outside perspective. Being able to see the fruits of your labour more or less. Not being able to see your own character takes that part of the experience away.
I don't have anything against 1st person view if it is an option and not locked in. I get that they probably did it for PvP related reasons but IMO if you're going to lock in only one perspective being available at all in an MMO it should be 3rd person.
I'll still give the game a shot but any hype I had looking forward to it's release has definitely taken a hit with this realization. I was hoping MO2 was going to be more or less a bigger better version of what MO1 was intended to be but never quite reached. With no 3rd person it's going to seem a lot more like a completely different game in concept.
