Quality Patch for increasing replayability (HD resolution, controls, multiplayer)
This patch was originally made as a workaround against the setup bug occuring in most XIII retail CD/DVD versions. Apart of that, it also adds lots of Quality-of-Life features like increased screen resolution, better controls, working multiplayer + mods + map editor and addresses a critical bug related to multi-core CPUs, which especially affects multiplayer gameplay.

The patch is compatible with the Steam version and is pretty straightforward to apply.

Grab the latest patch build here!

1) When the installer has started, choose the 'upgrade' function to patch the existing XIII installation.

2) Select the right path. If you've installed on Steam's default location, this should be "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\XIII - Classic" (without the quotation marks).

3) Leave all checkboxes enabled and select the HD option with your screen's aspect ratio. (in most cases it's 16:9)

Wait for the installation procedure to be completed.

If the game asks to remove the existing XIII.ini, click Yes. (this dialog happens when XIII was already launched before)

Now you can start the game. If you however experience a black screen or something, the only thing to do is to adjust your resolution.

Go to your XIII installation in System directory and open Default.ini. Afterwards delete XIII.ini if existing.

Locate the following section (search function) and edit the values appropriately for your machine:
[WinDrv.WindowsClient] FullscreenViewportX=1920 FullscreenViewportY=1080

If you would like to tweak your FOV as well, you can do that in the file DefUser.ini. Attention: These settings only apply for newly created user profiles.
[Engine.PlayerController] DesiredFOV=101.400000 DefaultFOV=101.400000

Typical values for specific aspect ratios/resolutions:
16:9 - 101.4 16:10 - 95.43 2560x1080 - 116.91 1366x768 - 101.43 1360x768 - 101.18

cool, let everyone know that the game is still alive and there are dedicated servers that are still active 24/7.

Does the patch work with W8.1? I installed but can't get higher resolutions to kick in.

But still no quicksave/load option, I presume?

Bro, this game was released at a time when pc ports were an afterthought and higher resolutions were considered unnecessary. The highest resolution in the 1.0 version is 1024*768 for crying out loud. You can manually save it Everytime it hits a checkpoint and it only takes 5 seconds to do so.

There are checkpoints indeed, but after loading the whole level restarts. I have the GOG version installed and don't want to play because of this.

Bro, when a checkpoint occurs, hit the esc button and click on the save game option. Choose a slot and press enter. This is how you save your game in XIII

I'll try that. Still the worst possible way to save a game ever.

it is what it is, it's still better than there being no save options at all.

yo thanks for this, I thought the steam version cant be updated for fixes and mp, I couldnt find my original CD

I saw 4 servers up atm but all are empty, I do have one question tho > how do I access the "G" menu and how do I heal? I know healing is on Q but it doesnt work for me, even if I go to options and change it specificaly to g > for the menu and q for quick heal.

Do I have to change anything somewhere or?

You can use F5/F9 for quicksaving to reduce the time effort to a single button press.

Look for an existing XIII.ini and delete it. If it should be still a different resolution for some weird reason, you can also directly edit the resolution in XIII.ini and see if this works out.

The item menu known from single-player doesn't exist in multiplayer. Every medkit is immediately consumed when run over, hence those keys are inactive there.

aah alright, thanks for the info o/

edit: im back with another question, I jumped on MP to see the healing and I got this thing happening > when I shoot with any gun, as I shoot I start aiming up or down with my mouse, right, but when I stop shooting, the aim automatically puts itself in the middle again, it wont keep the dot where I left it, it sort of "jumps" back

I swear this never happened to me in singleplayer, thats why I'm asking, I wonder if anyone else had this exprience, super weird. Any info on this would be appreciated. o/

get somebody to join you online and hope that people show up. Alternatively, you can join the inside xiii discord and see if somebody over there will join you for a game or two.
