small issue with steam cloud sync
so this has been the only game I've had this happen with, though I haven't played anything else since buying this.

steam cloud sync shows to sync as it's supposed to, but whenever I attempt to play the game, it shows that it isn't synced. Whenever I exit out of the game, it shows that it syncs correctly again. and again upon opening, i get the brief message showing that it cannot sync and that if I continue with the game, I may lose old data.

I so far have lost absolutely nothing, and this small issue has only been going on for about 48 hours.

So I'm wondering if this is an issue with Necesse, or Steam, and if I should even be worried about it at all. Has anyone else ever had this issue?

It sounds like you’re running into a strange sync issue with Steam Cloud, and I can see why that would be concerning. While it’s good news that you haven’t lost any data, this issue might still cause some worry about potential data loss in the future.

Here are a few things to consider and try:

Steam Cloud Sync Delay: Sometimes, Steam’s cloud syncing can be delayed, especially if there’s a lot of data to upload or if Steam’s servers are experiencing heavy traffic. This could explain why it says it’s synced after exiting, but not when you re-launch the game.

Manual Cloud Sync: You can try manually syncing your save files by right-clicking the game in your library, selecting "Properties," then navigating to "General" and unchecking and rechecking the Steam Cloud option. This forces the game to re-sync with Steam Cloud.

Check for Steam Client Updates: Make sure your Steam client is fully updated, as outdated versions can sometimes cause syncing issues with certain games.

Necesse-Specific Issue: Since you mentioned this is the only game causing the issue, it might be worth verifying the integrity of the game files. You can do this by right-clicking the game in your library, going to "Properties," and selecting "Verify Integrity of Game Files" in the "Local Files" tab. This ensures there are no missing or corrupted files that could interfere with syncing.

Safe to Ignore?: If you haven’t lost any data in the past 48 hours and the game is functioning normally, this might just be a small bug between Steam and Necesse. As long as your local saves are intact, you should be safe, but it’s always good to keep an eye on the situation just in case.

If the problem persists, you can report it to Steam or the Necesse devs to see if they’re aware of any specific syncing issues with the game.

If you found this response helpful, feel free to send a Steam Award! 😊✨

I ran into something similar after I created a character with a non-latin name in Linux. For a some reason it was saved as "??????.dat" on disk/cloud and (apparently) later in Windows this file could not be created because of "?" character. So Steam complained every time but everything worked because actual Windows saves were fine.

I launched the game in Linux again and renamed my character, then deleted .bak-file with old name in ~/.config/Necesse/saves, everything seems to work now.
