Should you rush to have 2 teams or focus on keeping houses in check?
I have not reached that far yet but since it takes a while to get responses on posts, i want to ask : just like phenix point this is going to get to the point where i have to decide to have enough agents to run 2 teams vs 1 very strong team.

My intuition is to get 2 teams asap, and level up only one of them and use the other to get easier missions done. Any recommendations would be helpful, i'm on hardest difficulty and dont plan to do many playthroughs.

Can't exactly 'rush' two teams in this game... :)

I am also playing blind on hardest and having a great fun with this game. It is way better than I thought it's going to be.

Anyway, what I did is take it easy, buff my 3 main characters while keeping doomclock as low as possible. Once there is an obvious chance to recruit I did extra two characters whom I am using for exploration and resource gathering only. I am about half way through and have only recruited my 6th character that I am slowly buffing with an idea to join the 'mission' team.

So yes, while similar to Phoenix Point, X-Com etc. it isn't quite the same. Characters / team management and build up is different and way slower.

Play how you think works for you but I think having 3+1 for missions (and priority for skill points, obviously) and then two for searches is probably optimal. From what you've posted in other threads you're not out of the tutorial missions yet so may be an idea to get a feel for how the game works with one mission and ~2 searches per week. It's not really like Phoenix Point.

You want to aim for 4 characters with upgrades but getting the 2 cost and 4 cost ones on other heroes won't set you back. I've only been upgrading characters who are about to be used and some times you may have to bring somebody in. If you have a character that isn't likely to suffer a stress break you can invest heavy in them knowing they will most likely be on every mission. Usually with the team of 4 though if one has to sit you have the extra guy ready. So when you get into those 4 man missions you have a fully upgraded team when everyone is healthy.

I don't think you need to budget for two teams at all. For most missions you can only use 3 characters. Occasionally you can use 4.

I've been playing on medium because unfortunately I can't change it to hard. I've only been stress broken a single time and that was very early on while I was getting used to the game and fought a scion for the first time. I rarely have my characters go down.

You want to focus skill points on one or a few characters rather than spreading it around too much because there usually big power spikes further down in the skill trees that you want to hit.

I just did one rescue mission with a single agent, thinking that i will be able to use other agents for other missions...

Doing it with 1 agent was awesome but seems you waste your turn doing this, so just like you said its not like phoenix point (which sucks) this would benefit significantly if you could devide agents and do 2-3 things at once (obviously difficulty would be upped accordingly) you still shouldnt be able to keep every house 0 even if you can do 1 agent missions.

Kinda sucks that it forces me to use all agents at once.

I love to target 5 agents -- 3+1 as the others have said, which for most weeks leaves 2 agents to do side-missions, or to rotate out one of my primary agents if they have a particularly nasty Breaking card. Anything past 5 agents in a playthrough seems excessive, since I wouldn't spend the XP to level up anyone but the main 4 -- unless you really want to hear the cool voice-over exchanges in the Hideouts between particular agents.

You should definitely assign all of the SIDE missions first, and THEN do the primary combat mission. -- And yeah, you can try to do a main mission with less than 3 (pretty baller move, if you wanna have a challenge!) -- I had a playthrough with an all-3-agents-TPK and then had to do missions with 2 agents for a little while until a rescue mission popped up. Good times.

I did the rescue mission for nocturne with only the jinn guy, had total 6 sucker punches and if i had just 1 less it would be impossible to do.

Then when they inevitably found me, i just put a smoke illusion and let them be busy with it for 2 turns (though they killed it in one) but it was enough for me and hostage to escape.

Managed to collect all the loot too, shame i'll have to discard this and load a previous save and do main mission... if i cant use multiple partys then no point rescuing them if i know my agents are good.

Don’t get new agents. 5 is really all you need. Focus on having one super team with a backup or two who go on one agent assignments. Recruiting agents is a trap because they don’t level up faster or get you resources faster. Essentially getting a new agent is wasting a week. If you are going to get something then get an ally or further the objective, otherwise knock down the Court.
