Teardown

The teardown update is freezing my computer
Everytime i try to update the game, it gets stuck on a certain point, my computer's disk then spikes and goes up to 100% and then literally everything on my pc freezes, i cant even click the windows icon to restart my pc. I had stop the update to uninstall the game to make this stop happening because it kept happening EVERY TIME i got onto steam. Has this been happening to anyone else or is it just me?

If the game is installed on the OS disk it will obviously cause freezes because it is using 100%, this happens when the update is highly compressed, if you install it on another disk it will not happen anymore.

This sounds like your harddrive being overworked. This happens if your harddrive is old and is slowly developing mechanical faults (which can cause slowdowns, that will lead to computer freezing if this is the OS disk) or even loss of data. Or your program is trying to move more files than your drive can handle. This particularily happens with new modern internet speeds easily surpassing the write speed of old drives. And programs without limitations.

I would highly recommend you to either install your games off of your OS drive. Or put a download speed limiter on your updates and game downloads in steam settings lower than the max capacity of your drive's current transfer/read/write speed.

A good idea would be to also scan your drive for faults and check the health of your drive.

Thanks for a response.

My harddrive is only a couple of years old, so i am pretty sure it isn't faulty, though i did scan the drive for faults but there wasn't any.

The weird thing is that this is the ONLY update for a game that makes my pc freeze up like this, it is actually the first time it has ever happened to me. When steam updates any other game it is fine except for Teardown, i have no idea why it is only exclusively teardown.

Also thank you for a response. I will try to download the game on another disk, if that doesn't work, i don't really know what else to do lol.

EDIT: I made it download on a different drive, it updated perfectly normally this time. Thank you! Now i can play creative mode

Sounds like your drive was being overworked then. Nice to hear you got it resolved. Cheers! (Also if it happens again. It might help put in limits on download speed in steam. Anything bellow the max capacity of said drive so it wont cause a hang if it happens to be the OS drive again)
