I wish the campaign was more chilled out
I'm playing the campaign and I was expecting something more cathartic and relaxed, like PowerWash Simulator. I don't like these alarm puzzles at all. It feels more like a Thief Simulator than a game about destroying stuff.

Don't like alarm missions? Skip them.

I kind of know what you mean, but the alarms don't go off until the "end" when you've already scoped/explored/set everything up. It's pretty chill/comfy up until you set the alarm off, and after that, it's like a minute of running, and it's fun because you spent all that time setting up and watching it come to fruition. Although, I do think that destruction plays less of a role in this game than a newcomer might think. I was expecting something more like Red Faction Guerrilla, but the game as is is extremely good. Just different from that.

That would mean skipping 90% of the campaign.

Same. When I bought the game I did so based on the gameplay of some people I've seen on Youtube and it looked like fun just destroying things, then I find out most of the game is dealing with alarms with real short timers. Had I known it was like that I would have waited for a sale or something. Thankfully there's a workshop mod that disables the alarm completley so I can steal things and destroy without worry like I had wanted to when I bought it.

Which I assume is directionless? it's not what I'm after. I like the campaign structure but not how it's all alarm based however with the mod installed it's a non-issue for me now.

I feel the same way about the alarms. But the way I looked at it was essentially destroying stuff to create the best path... which was sort of a round about means of rationalizing their choice with those missions. But it got my foot in the door with trying and I've beat it 3 times now. Granted it still gets to me when I try a new route and it doesn't work out or something silly happens like getting stuck... plus the prep for those missions for me ends up being ridiculously long. Like an hour or more. It becomes a bit exhausting to where I found myself only really doing those levels one at a time. But it did made the game longer. lol idk. was just my experience and I didn't hate it outside of a few frustrating moments.

BUt also there are a few subtle aspects that make it a bit less annoying. Some boxes can be moved and some missions you can sort of adjust the order and it can make a big difference. Im lacking the specific examples in my head... but they are there i promise. lol

Last one I promise. lol. If you are looking for more of a cathartic experience I have since stumbled upon a couple little secret spots in the levels. Granted I haven't looked or searched for anything on the game outside of mods, but I just go into sandbox mode with new mods and try them out... which led me to essentially trying to destroy the entire level... and I mean every single destructible bit... then I found some places that i would have otherwise never even seen. I'm not convinced yet, but I am starting to think there is at least one secret area/room in each level... minus maybe one or two... I will confirm this in a few days. lol

I made a post about this recently too suggesting they have an option to remove alarms all together as they have an option to extend it up to 120 seconds total

I understand people want a chill experience but without the alarms you are just walking up to an objective and grabbing it. What's the fun in that? It's not like you have to destroy walls or anything to get to most of the objectives on timed missions.

For one, they did that in like the second mission and I still enjoyed myself. It lets it sort of be a sandbox with a small objective. And two, I think people want a more destruction oriented campaign, not just this campaign without the timers.

We all need to be careful with Youtubers. They are often compensated to make games seem more fun then they actually are. I've been burned more than once by this. It's the new form of advertising unfortunately. I'm also sick of Youtubers begging for likes and subscribes.

I'm not saying the game is bad or Youtubers in general are bad, but the whole thing makes it harder to buy games that we may actually like because of all the misinformation and bias. Then there is review bombing and such other practices. Some Youtubers I do like, but that's few and far in between.

Steam reviews make it hard to judge as well. a "very positive" game is often just average at best. How many times do you see a review say 10/10 with less than 10 hours of playtime? People are entitled to opinions, but an educated one is really hard to find.

What is true, however, is that there is a lot of people that dislike timed stuff. I'm not a fan of them either, unless they make a game better and fit the gameplay properly. I'm on the fence on whether to buy this or not because of the whole idea. Seems kinda slapped on, but I could be wrong.

"fun" is also subjective. just beacuse a YouTuber has fun with a game does not mean you will as well, and vice versa. YouTubers are only normal people, with their own subjective tastes, likes and dislikes.

Agreed, got to be careful. Do your research and all that. As for the game while I don't like the alarm system it's not just slapped into there with no thought, you do have to plan a route, destroy to make that route fast, and sometimes even build to enhance it further so there is depth to it. Unfortuently almost all missions have side objectives and you can't do them at the same time, you'll have to let one or two go so you're not caught. Overall despite my issues with the game I'm certainly having fun and with the mods that I've mentioned and some I haven't it means I can tackle the game how I wish to tackle it. Saying that though do I think it's worth full price? nah.
