Buildings not collapsing
Hello

I love the game so far and the engine is really impressive, however, i have tried making buildings collapse on themselves by destroying litterally every pillar/everything that could support the rest of the structure and sometimes it just doesn't work and a part of the building ends up floating in the air. How comes ? Maybe it's a limit of the game's engine but in any case, here are screenshots where you can see the destruction not working properly. In both cases the building should collapse.

It doesnt have pressure related physics systems like polybridge because the amount of objects it would have to account for would not work with an average consumer grade cpu.

That would make sense, but on the second picture, i managed to make the cabin collapse by shooting the pillars more (even though they were already all cut in half). So what gives ?

It's a max voxel fall limit. Break the building into 8ths and they will all fall. It could crash the game engine if it fell at once.
See 2kliksphilip's video where he answers questions regarding Teardown. This is the first or second question that is asked

People keep defending it but this really does damage the game immensely. I'd rather the game run in 20 FPS and have the destruction actually work properly like it does in good destruction games than have stuff like this where millions of tons of material are held up by inches of plywood. It's just so bad this way and takes so much fun out of the game.

Here, the video I was talking about. See 00:48

it wouldnt even run at 1 fps

Yeah if they did what that guy was asking, it probably crash most computers, even super high end ones. That is a lot of calulations, and this has a lot more blocks then most games.

This video is a great example of how it's just not achievable. This is the framerate on a simple game with just 2 layers of objects going over an irregular distance.

This game simulates way more than that just for the objects alone. Adding a physics calculation too that would tank anything a regular consumer could get their hands on.

If someone want's to complain because they think something better can be made, hey I get where youre coming from but you shouldnt shun this game for being the effective link in the chain to a game that eventually may, once hardware gets there, is able to simulate this many particles in a 3d space with structure physics.

It's like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on doom because it's not as mechanically complex as arma 3.

Just don't buy doom.

i'm kinda heart broken by this game :/. this is not the same as what was shown in all the demos. i would've prefered glitchy physics. i mean i played space engineers and it had waaaay glitchy physics but ♥♥♥♥ actually broke appart

also the volumetric smoke and dust is not what it was in the demo :/ but it is still reasonably fun so ill keep it and hope for improvements.

Can you link the videos? Every video I see has basically as much going on as the game. I feel similarly but the video I know I specifically saw that I thought this of upon review didnt show anything different.

Literally everything in the previous videos is in the game currently. Ive been following teardown since july 2019 and I don't know where people are getting that from. I believe that people like Bluedrake somewhat misled them into the capabilities of teardown as the dev has always been open about its physics limitations.

Bluedrake does talk up a lot of the stuff he showcases(last I remember was him talking about battlefronts graphics) so that's believable. Maybe it's also the passion in the mind upon seeing the demo videos and people just thought the physics was implied, however given it's been so long they just have confused an assumption with a lead?
Marijuanaislife Oct 29, 2020 @ 8:39pm
it is one of the bluedrake videos but even if the physics are the same, i just don't see the satisfactory level of smoke pouring out in the actual game as i did in the video.
