Red faction didn't have the same level of destruction and most certainly did not have realistic physics.
This game is about its in depth physics simulation. This is a very broad spectrum. First being the light. Most of the light in the game is ray traced. Meaning its very accurate, and doesn't require an RTX card. The engine also has a very optimized physics simulator. Meaning that objects, and fluids act like the real thing. Most people gloss over the fluid simulation, but its fantastic. Never before has there been a game that simulates the motion of smoke, fire and even foam like Teardown. The reason that structural integrity is not a part of the game is because it would be much to unoptimized for today's hardware and would require an engine rewrite. Somethings are simply too much, even for modern tech.
Furthermore, this game is quite in depth gameplay wise, despite being early access. There is a pretty detailed story to the game. As you progress, you will unlock more weapons and tools to use. It seems that you were not aware of this, as you judged the game from the starting tool. Because yes, the starting tools get boring. But the game does a really great job of keeping your attention by adding new and unique tools for you to use. There is also a pleasant looting aspect. Once in a while, you will come across a valuable item, that you can steal. You will get rewarded for this, and can upgrade your tools.
The mere fact that you had the intrigue to buy the game, means that you are interested in it. You probably just aren't satisfied with anything. Perhaps you don't get laid enough?
I also enjoy breaking stuff -- the game is like bubble-wrap with extra missions.
If you don't get it, then its not for you. Physics games aren't exactly a massive appeal. Probably because they require beefy systems and can be buggy. But for me I would do anything for one.
