General FAQ (VR, multiplayer, sandbox, specs, modding, demo, etc)
Will this game support VR
No. The technology works in VR, but I don't think the game is a good fit. There might be other games based on the same technology that are better suited for VR, but Teardown will be a PC game.

Can you add a sandbox/creative mode?
The game is designed around sandbox gameplay. You will have a lot of freedom to roam around and play with the world at your own pace. I have not yet decided if there will be a separate sandbox mode since I'm not sure it's necessary. I'm planning to add some form of level editing, but it will likely be through external tools and not in-game placement of assets.

Will there be Multiplayer support?
No. I also think it would be cool to play this together with friends, but synchronizing this amount of phsysics over the Internet is very hard and simply out of reach for a small team, if at all possible.

Will you support Linux, MacOS, console, mobile, etc?
That is very unlikely. We're a small team and need to focus. This game will release on Windows/PC.

Will the game run on xxx/yyy GPU?
Due to the heavy use of physics and the nature of the game there is no way to guarantee smooth frame rate at all times regardless of hardware. Therefore is it also very hard to set a minimum spec. The game should run on most modern GPUs that support OpenGL 4.5 and almost any CPU with varying performance. Personally I use a GTX 1080 and Core i7, which gives 60 FPS in most situations. It will run on slower hardware, but you will experience more frame stuttering and/or slow-motion effects.

Will there be other mission types and game modes?
What I show in the video is just one mission type. There will be others as well, but most of them are based on the two phases of planning and action.

Can you make this a Zombie Survival/Battle Royale/Other game type instead?
No. I appreciate ideas for other games, but the core gameplay for this game will not change into something completely different. I have spent a lot of time prototyping different game ideas and this is the one I want to make. There is a separate, sticky thread for new game ideas based on this technology.

Will this game support modding?
Yes, I hope so. I haven't figured out exactly how yet, and it may not be available at release, but my intention is to add mod support in the form of level editor, scripting and Steam Workshop in the future.

Will there be a demo version?
I'm planning on early access release, but there will not be a free demo.

What will be the price? Will it be free?
Teardown will be in the USD $20 price tier.

Is there an official discord server for this game?
No, not at the moment. There might be in the future.

Seems multiplayer could be made possible if you do stream the entire game from XCloud/Stadia/Geforce Now or do split screen on next gen consoles. The XBox should be as fast as a GTX 1080ti it seems. Regarding the former, using the cloud is not even a bad idea given the hardware this game needs.

And for the record, unlike with ray tracing, I don't think that there is going to be much more hardware support for voxels any time soon. So, every generation of GPU only will add some slight performance increase. Without actual hardware support, running stuff on the GPU is almost like running stuff on the CPU. It's just on the GPU you got more threads. That's why my GTX 1080ti is a TOTAL suck with ray tracing in Quake 2 RTX. Needing a ~640p resolution with low quality to reach 60FPS with the mighty 1080ti is not even 'stomping it into the ground'. It's more like 'kicking it all the way down tot the planet's core.'. Keeping things 'indie grade' can help with a voxel engine. :)

In general, the cloud way could induce money, though. Google may be willing to pay-up for a timed exclusive?! The only problem of course is that the timed exclusive way is pro-tech but anti-consumer. Leaving the multiplayer-made-possible aspect aside. The consumer would benefit in the long run though: Obviously a game can't run without its technology so it may be worth investing into it first. However, the more you develop for the cloud, the more you depend on it, too. This will cut you off from the rest of the game market. Cloud game streaming just started, it's small, too, for now.

But "multiplayer can be made possible". That's my whole point. :)

Linux would be cool.
What about split-screen co-op?

Seems the hub is like a sandbox.

You are always at the hub when you are not doing missions. I'm don't know how unlocks work if there are any, but I figure vehicles etc., would appear in the hub once you started or completed a mission where those vehicles are encountered.

what about local multiplayer or coop?

i'm really excited for this to come, since it will be getting close to the end of 2020, then it will possibly come around september or october

It would definitely be possible to add local co-op to the game, and there would be no need to network anything through a server. Then, as long as there is controller support, friends could still play with each other in different locations using Parsec. Would this be an option in the future?
