Report a translation problem
While even I prefer large scale mech to mech-like suit (a.k.a. Iron man suits), I got to give credits where it's due: mech-like suits allows 3x more dynamics potential in any environment.
I know because I'm currently working/designing on an isometric ARPG mech-based game and the graduation when moving from ground level stuff to mech level stuff is quite some huge design challenges to overcome. It's kinda like why FromSoftware made changed the AC size from 10m tall to 7m from around AC4 and so on: How could you fit a 10m tall giant robot on a underground highway sized for trucs or, even worse, how could you evade attacks with that huge thing in such a restricted area?
With a Mech of a regular size, you need environment to be huge in proportion.
I like to give the highway Interchange comparison.
With 10m tall mechs, a highway interchange section on a map would only be seen like destructive pillar/buildings. A 10m would break that thing like if it was made out of ice.
With a 7m tall mech, a highway interchange section on a map would seems like a temporary thing where said mech could use the various roads as temporary platforms, but still some low part cannot even be walked into unless it's something like 6 ways and tall enough. After a battle, it's all coming down.
With a 2.5m-3m tall mech-like suit, a highway interchange section on a map is a multi-layered concrete jungle which can be jumped onto, flied around and used as cover. After a battle, you can still see the basic structure of the highway in general.
For example, in MxM:T trailer, you can notice a short fight scene happening on a 4 lanes highway tunnel (when there's a shout saying "Rebels!"), that scene would seem quite small and anti-climatic with a MxM1 arsenal. The same could apply with the large mechanical animals @0:46. There's also the use of trees that would feel lacking if you were 4x-5x times bigger.
In other words, smaller means more feasible details in the environment.
And, finally, there's 2 shorts parts in the trailer that shows arsenal with mechanical limbs like MxM1 arsernal @0:51. Are those small-sized arsenals or actually large arsenals?
I might be wrong there, but the "human sized" arsenals seems to have human-like limb smooth & flexible animation and some of the late part of the trailer shows mech or suits with mechanical animations. It could be that we actually get to customize both a large and a small scale arsenal depending on the mission environment.
Mainstream audiences hate giant robots; they consider them "embarrassing" and "childish", they find Iron Man not just palatable but very cool. Same with 40k space marines.
And that is the problem this companies only care about money, they don't care about the people their audience, they will always betray their audience just to get more people into their games and if that means destroying what made their game good so be it.
Gaming was destroyed the moment it went mainstream.
Well, videogame developers happen to be commercial entities whose goal is making money; they aren't artists making art for the sake of it.
There are most likely 2 ways things may go:
1) The game moved from 2 stories giant robots to Master-Chief sized mech suits and we'll see characters from the first game returns as enemies/boss in 2 stories giant robots from he first game. Basically, the classic "new small-ish vs old big-ish" style boss battle.
2) The game (and most of the trailer) is now focusing on both the on-foot and in giant-mech combats. Basically giving a better gameplay volume of stuff when going on foot (instead of just a bit here and there).
(Maybe) we will see 2 kinds of missions where some are restricted to small scale and other are large scales.
And that is a problem.
Are you currently making a game as an art without any idea or goal of making any money out of it? In other word, are you part of the solution onto which you point out as a problem?
If your answer is "no", then the problem you point out isn't as important to you as you might think it is because you're doing nothing about it yourself.
Do I know about what I'm currently writing about? Yes. I'm a project manager on a video game (unrelated to this game or it devs and publisher) and I have been working on a project for over 14 months by now. Before that project, I was working for 4 years on different project that had to be put on ice because there are some complication with the financial side of the market at the moment. Yes, I had to put 4 years of work on ice because there wouldn't be enough money out of that game and switched on a 2 years projects who's prospect is better because I'M the one who's funding this project from my own pocket and I'm working a secondary job just to pay my own rent and food.
Would you work a side job on top of a video game job for YEARS just to be able to afford said project? No? Then you should stop thinking money grows on trees once a game is released and move on.
I'm glad we're getting a sequel period, the mech suits will be just as rad and I can't wait to see the customization for them. Plus from a lore perspective it makes sense that the mechs would scale down in size as technology advanced for it; even Gundam did this in the UC with mobile suits being much smaller by the time of F91 due to the large size no longer being necessary.
Not to mention technologically the inevitable step is minimizing anythings size so it's easier to use, portable and whatnot.
Why do you think tanks got smaller and guns also became a standardized size?
Except Modern tanks actuallly have nearly double the mass of wwII tanks baring one off memes like the maus.. As for guns uh no and standardization is usually more for logistics than anything else and its always been like that. Unless you mean barrel lenght and ammo in which case we are literally experiancing a ♥♥♥♥ back to longer barrel rifles with heavier ammo again.
Everything else is usually the same as civilain stuff like cars, usually trends and persanol preference.
Smaller design being better is mostly just a sci fi trope that apple liked to use for marketing.
Reguardless screw off I dont actually care about the reason I just want mech game back. Being a mech fan sucks we get maybe two games every 5 years not to mention the decade lkong drought in the 00s.
A mech game ac style plus you can hop out and do stuff as a pilot? Yes more of that its why im here. It adds more weight to them when you can see the scale difference and adds to the world.
Take your stupid anthem power armor and shove it where the sun dont shine.
Also, as far as I'm aware there aren't really any PA-focused games that offer the depth of customisation seen in mech management games, so if nothing else Titanic Scion's going to have its own niche on that front.
