Can we really not play single-player content offline?
I was pretty hyped to play this game right up until I found out that even if you solo - you can't do the exploration or co-op missions offline. My internet isn't always the most stable, and generally speaking I don't like to buy games that force design choices I can't stand behind on principal; so is this true? Because if so I'm going to have to take a hard pass no matter how fun this game seems.

You can play Story missions and Free missions offline.
Free missions are replayable at any time, and story missions become replayable after you finish the story.
So no, you can actually play and grind original single-player content offline.

Exploration and co-op missions, while technically solo-able, are not exactly single-player content, they're multiplayer content.
But I agree it's unfortunate that you can't grind dungeons offline, and in say 10 years when servers are shut down, this part of the game will just disappear.
Unless someone release private servers or hacks to enable it.

The Co-op missions and exploration mode aren't server side, the game uses peer to peer connection between players and with no server check (which instead happens with dark souls 2). To add insult to the injury, the game just checks if steam is in online or offline mode, in the second case the game doesn't allow you to play those two modes, WHICH IS VERY RETARDED, since they don't truly require internet to function at all, BS which can be bypassed with not so legit ways.

I have already stated in the features thread to allows us to play both modes in offline mode, as the switch version already allows that.

I've heard (from the same person who told me about this issue in the PC version) that in the Switch version, if you don't have a nintendo online subscription you can't play them either, even if you don't play with other people.

Yes you need to pay for the internet to console company on top of your paying for your internet to ISP. Console gaming is a joke these years.

According to reddit nope, as long you play in local mode:

You can play the single player offline and have acess to the multiplayer content as you are able to host a local lobby with all the missions from the multiplayer.

EDIT: Added the source, which you can access from here https://www.reddit.com/r/DaemonXMachina/comments/etwq0w/is_it_offline/

How do you host offline lobby for co-op missions? I tried to do it with my internet off, and it wouldn't even open the menu.

If you mean on steam you actually can't. If you mean on the switch I don't know, as I don't own one (try to ask in that thread in case).

What a shame, I hope someone makes it possible to play online content offline, like they did in Xenoblade X.
Mandatory online requirements for singleplayer games like this are horrible.

I don't understand why that they FORCED online auth on the steam version, which is really stupid. The game basically checks if steam is in online mode and if the game can access internet, but it doesn't actually access to anything, so this is barrier is unneeded.

I understand *why* they did it, but I think it's misguided and harms legitimate players who just want to play the game they bought, and discourages players like me who hear about it before they but it, and decide not to purchase based on that.

There is honestly no reason to do it, especially if "non-steam version" bypasses that restriction.

I completely agree with you, which is the reason for which I still can't digest this and I really hope they will fix this. Chances are low, but meh, let's hope for the better.
