PSA: Arms do nothing for melee.
No matter what arm you pick it wont effect anything related to using a melee weapon.

How thoroughly did u test this? I hope not just looking for changes in displayed stats....

I think I remember hearing that Melee is more about how much you do when you have no weapon equiped, and it's all about the sword or club you are using otherwise.

Melee performance stat affects recovery time (outside of chains). That being said, how noticeable it is depends on the weapon. More recovery time = more noticeable effect.
It's not noticeable with the short 0.2 recovery time of the default katana.

oddly enough katanas don't benefit as much as other melee weapon types from the melee performance stat, while on the others the higher your melee performance the faster you recover, in terms of katanas you get almost no benefit from it due to it being inherently a chaining weapon and has faster innate recovery

You can try it yourself, check range increases from outer upgrades by going into the test level and attacking with lock on while flying (to eliminate extra distance from the platforms the turrets are on) and stand at the line on the ground nearest the "0" mark and dash forward, and use two different arms with the same sword and compare arms.

With a full 50% increase from outer upgrades it is a marginal change at best, were talking a few extra metres if anything. So that isnt a 50% of anything regarding the weapon.

There is a faster recovery on swords with more Melee Support, for what its worth(?), but there seems to be a lower limit.

My mate doesnt believe me but I think you can get Prominence going faster than Habakiri.

Its all quite frustrating tbh.

It seems that melee range +% (if you are talking about the body modification one) do NOT affect melee weapons, only unarmed. I found this piece of information by browsing the the switch gamefaqs board, this thread in particular: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/241205-daemon-x-machina/78028821

Kinda sad since at first I was trying to make a samurai like build, but well, these modifications are utterly useless, and I don't know if this is a bug or intended, really.

no we are talking about the melee performance stat on arsenal arms, but yes melee chain and melee range are trap choices, though admittedly I picked melee range eitherways because my pilot would look weird without it

Ouch, my bad. So how does one increases sword performance overall? I'm always bringing with be a beam saber during exploration mode, as sometimes I end up with no ammo, but the damage is pretty low.

You can add mods to the weapon but they dont do much... best thing I found was to fully commit to melee weapons and duel wield for double damage because you cant do anything else while attacking with a melee weapon, but then you lose the bonus recovery speed it seems so... its still the best you can get.

I think you're doing low damage in exploration with beam saber either because it has low base damage, or the things you're trying to kill it with has high beam resistance. from what I can tell melee damage body upgrades does affect melee weapons.

So in order to maximize the raw stat of a melee weapon, you have to take the body augments that boost melee damage, and slot in damage booster attachments.

to boost overall melee dps, Melee performance stat from arms are needed for recovery after melee attacks

You also know that melee does a lot of damage if you hit from the optimal zones right?

because if you're just up in close continually you're going to only damage 60 a hit or so... while if you Swing from an optimal zone usually it's 10x the damage.

Double swinging with Anfang's i've been hitting roughly 1500-2000 in the optimal but when i'm literally up close swinging like that in their faces its only 100-300 damage.

Pretty much.

Yeah I thought about that one too, but I'm still unsure.

So this is official, uh? Because I noticed how the damage ranged from crappy to 4 times it's previous damage, especially if I've walked back and attacked. How is measured the optimal range? I Can see numbers on the lock on, but is there a "magic" number which works always for increased damage?
DoleBananas Feb 21, 2020 @ 9:53am
I don't think for melee weapons there's actually an optimum range.

Rather, I think (and I believe there's a tip in-game somewhere about it), the further you travel during a melee dash the higher damage is.

Therefore, the best way to increase melee damage by the sounds of everything I've read in this thread is probably to increase melee dash distance which IIRC there is mods specifically for that.
