Wait until they start hitting you, then quickly run to the side or backwards depending on weapon length and attack angle. You can exhaust enemy stamina and get free hits this way.
I dont know about it being too easy, it has challenging combat at points, you can break the game if you are experienced gamer or know the mechanics (like if you came from the devs previous game) but thats how most rpgs were designed, to struggle at first and become uber powerful mid to late game...even the old school difficult games had that design philosophy.
I do have an issue with the attitude of gamers that because they suck at the game that mean the game sucks. Not everyone wants a power fantasy where staring at the enemy hard enough makes them fall over and you're constantly told by the game directly or indirectly how amazing and wonderful you are...besides there is an easy option at game start....
This game does have annoying bugs and very valid things to criticize about it for sure, so dont get me wrong, but in my last several hours I've suddenly encountered almost none of those and I'm having a blast.

Not all players are hardcore, moreover, according to statistics, a minority of players are hardcore (10%), and too high difficulty without alternatives scares off the potential audience.
When OP is playing Kenshi he is attacking a group of bandits with a newbie character and then ask for a refund because the game is unplayable, so he is buying Bannerlord and he is besieging a town with his newly created character and soon after he is also asking for a refund. So he is buying this game, and, well you know already.
Things get even worse early on when Martina leaves the group for a while — you have no money, absolutely nothing, and any nearby enemy can kill you, even a boar in a 1v1 fight.
However, if you manage to get past this initial barrier, the game gradually becomes easier, and the difficulty curve flattens out once you have four companions and equip them properly.
1) a trial run at 4 hours, reached the cave with Soltana and realized that I can't win.
2) The second run, character 1-1-1-1-5-1 (without 5 INT you can't use spells and pump INT) and 184 Potential.
12 hours of catching weak groups of enemies on the map or groups fighting with merchants/villagers, and by estimates I need at least 4 more hours. Only after that will I be able to complete the FIRST STORY quest after the prologue, with the addition of Martina and Soltana.
A total of 20 hours. In 20 hours in mainstream RPG (Dragon Age Origins, Neverwinter Nights 1/2, SV KoTOR 1) I would have completed half of the game with a bunch of impressions from the story quests. Here I grind for 20 hours to reach the FIRST STORY quest and finally join Soltana.
3) To join Soltana you need high Charisma (thanks to the kind people who wrote in the discussions), which
A) is not obvious
B) Charisma is either farmed by "pooping up" the relationship list with dozens of villagers who need to be complimented. Or it is done by cheating/save editing.
I guess that the second main problem will come next - inadequately high difficulty with some enemies in the late game.
I remember in Blackthorn Arena the Orc-master of gladiators (3rd fight in his arena) was impassable even on VERY EASY difficult . More precisely, it looked like torture, and before this fight there was no save (and each time it would be necessary to pass 2 difficult fights beforehand, which are difficult even on VERY EASY ), so I spat and did not even try.
The problem is what happens next, after leaving the first location, even with Martina, groups of enemies more than 2 boars, 3 wolves, 2 bandits are unkillable. Spiders, a bear, goblins together with Martina are unkillable.
And you need to grind for a long time (already 12 hours, according to estimates, at least 16 are needed) to complete the FIRST STORY quest after the prologue, and join Soltana. With Soltana and Martina, it should be easier.
Overall: a very good game from a good developer. I really liked Blackthorn Arena before.
I hope they have good sales, and the game will be patched and improved.
Even though I hate DLC in general, I would buy it from these developers. And I understand that given the small size of the team and (unfortunately) not the biggest sales, this will be a way out for them.
I hope that the DLC will be compatible with old saves, and add: new locations, new story quests, new female companions
Pull enemies one by one on points of interest such as dungeons? Do noncombat quests to get money for another companion? Go to some arena which allows 1v1? Learn magic to oblitirate literally everyone?
Or complain that game is too difficult?
On my first playthrough I came to the orc cave underleveled,
on my second playthrough I spent 14 hours grinding on weak enemy groups with Martina, and came to the orcs overleveled. With a party of 3 characters it's still +/- OK to play.
I just want the game to be more user friendly,
without grinding in a single player game.
And here you have to actively grind to level up.
And the price of leveling up skills is growing very fast, I didn't level up that much, and the price is already wow... Apparently, to level up skills more or less you'll have to grind a lot. And you can't level up a lot, you'll run into a very high price.
But I like the quests in the game, they're really good.
I would just mark quest givers in cities with a "?" icon so that the player doesn't miss them. Otherwise it's easy to miss them.
