How can the developers not put something in by now that lets you skip the pointless annoying conversations! I do not care Lou! No I do not want to join your stupid club! No I do not want to know about some girl you met, who knows where! No I do not want to be dragged into your BS! Leave me the hells alone!! GAH!!!!!!!! (okay rant done. I feel better)

How? The devs are no longer working on the game (no game updates on the Steam depots since November 2022) and so the game will likely remain in its current state forever, no skip button and all.

Well, because players tolerate it and reward it.

How many of you bought Homeworld 3?

How many of you left a positive review on Steam for Hardspace?

I know it's pointless to rant but I'll join in anyway. All the characters in this game are absolutely insufferable. You can tell the voice actors are actually good, but the writing is so awful, bland, annoying, uninteresting that it makes me wanna pull my hair out. The game is brilliant so I put up with it, but I find it baffling that you don't have a skip button. I would gladly skip Lou, but I wanna hear the dude when he is explaining stuff during training, so just muting the game is not optimal.
Well.. back to breaking ships.
Me out

And? Its not going to kill you to listen to a bit of dialog you don't want to listen to so you can play the game. Seriously. This is the equivilant to crying about having to unwrap a piece of candy. Yes it would be great if you just popped it into your mouth but you gotta do something you don't want to before you can enjoy it.

Thats why its not a big deal, because you do this kind of thing in your life every single day.

Might as well join in for once.
The problem is not dialogue. Or conversations.

The problem is that it is neither of those things.
It is not people talking TO you. It is people talking AT you.
Its monologues, or conversations that completely leave you out and you're just a bystander forced to listen to it.
Which is kind of fine with Weaver and Hal for me, because one is an older guy monologuing about his wisdom about life, and the other an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that likes his own voice.
But hell of annoying the rest of the time.
"Conversations" in the hab are the absolute worst, in space I can work while they talk.

And following the problem with the talking is having no say in your own "decisions".
I'm all for unions (as long as they work as intended) and taking the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ company presented in the game down a notch.
But being signed up to a union without actually consenting to it is just as grating as the unasked for 1.000.000.000 debt that somehow comes out of nowhere.
Or even worse, the debt at least has the justification of being the premise for why you work there.

Being talked at is the perfect description. I also don't like when characters GLOM onto you like Lou does, i've worked with people like that in real life and they are so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying, like i'm trying to do my job can you ♥♥♥♥ off?

Lou feels incredibly needy and demanding of my attention whether im interested in giving it or not and the fact that she never asks if you would like to talk but rather just talks at you makes it all the worse.

And i'm going to leave a positive review because the game is really fun despite Lou being annoying for 1% of it. And i am in 100 percent support of unions.

Honestly a skip button would be nice but I really didn't mind the story. I mean it wasn't perfect and was fairly predictable but I enjoyed my time with the game and really enjoyed the ending scene :)

Yeah but here's the important distinction between a wrapper and an unwanted conversation. The wrapper is there to keep the candy sanitary, to keep you, the consumer, safe. The conversations that happen without are just auditory padding. It's like saying you're not allowed to go grocery shopping without old Aunt Ethel screeching in your ears about the commies that live in her brain. The wrapper in this scenario is the tutorial conversations. Those are there to walk you through the game. Why can't we just turn off our radio in our helmets or, better yet, why can't we RESPOND to the conversations?

i don't know what sort of workplace you guys are at, but aren't coworkers supposed to be bland, insufferable, and repetitive? This is literally immersive realism to me. I spend all day with people talking at me and i just silently stare into space waiting for them to be done so i can go back to grinding away at paying my debts.

I for one applaud the Devs. I think they did a wonderful job portraying the incompetency of DEI hires and their obsession with unions to hold on to their jobs and ensure that qualified applicants are overlooked. It adds so much realism.

There's no skip button in real life for people talkin' at you in the office... You can just zone out, smile and not boys, smile and nod. Most of the time it doesn't even block you from just carrying on with what you are doing, whether repairing equipment or picking a ship to set out on.

I think they should add unskippable teams meetings and if you afk for more than 15 seconds a manager calls you to see what the hold up is. Oh and more of your boss's boss calling and trying to tell you how to do your job. Really builds the immersion for me tbh.

Holy hell, these arguments are still happening even after all these years...

They will surely pop up after every single Steam Sale... :D

I dunno how long ShipBreaker sat on my Wishlist, I think it was one of the longest.
