Separating Furnace/Processor panels from each other
New player here. How do you go about doing this? Don't believe it's been mentioned by Weaver throughout the tutorial and im several ships in and been dealing with the penalty because I dont know how to split these apart. There's no cut points, and i cant use the splitter on the beam holding them together because it "requires higher level". What am I missing here?

Furnace items can typically be sliced with the cutter.
If not, You can break anything, once you unlock demolition.
Certain losses are inevitable, check the price tag, compare and send to the more expensive salvage

Yes, however i've got two different category items sandwiched together with no obvious separation point.

I did end up just going with the "what has the lesser penalty i can afford to take?" deciding factor for now.

I seem to recall some of the hull being made that way. And the only thing connecting them is some non-slice-able frame work.

Yeah, in a few cases, you just salvage what you can. If the furnace bound item has only one bar durability and can be sliced, just use the cutter tool to cut out squares that don't overlap the frame... if that makes any sense.

Demolition will be able to break apart the frame and/or the hull any way you see fit, which should help a bit.

Ahh yes! Didn't think to try that. Sliced a 1bar durability into breakaway pieces to minimize the penalty big time. Thanks!

And yeah, look forward to demolition.

"Penalty" is a stretch. It is not deducted from your money, it is the value of the item that is no longer salvageable. The only deductions are daily, clones, and the shop.

Instead of cutting into many pieces, cut them as few times as possible. The less you cut, the more you earn. But yes, just cut them apart. Alternatively, if you find a panel on the inner ship that goes to the barge, just cut the connection points attaching it to another panel with the stinger. You can use the saw, but you take a chance of cutting into another part if you're not being careful. Doing this also makes removing barge items easier as instead of trying to find a hole to remove them through, you can instead remove the panels below them to move the items directly to the barge. I would rather cut a $3,347 connecting bar than a panel.

I slice them like the salami from the toast. Move in line with their connection

and slice flat on the first mark of M to cut away from processor stuff. Will lose a few hundred $ usually.

Also:
1. The SLICER will ONLY slice the pieces where it shows red DOTS. it's a "smart" tool and won't attempt to cut through non-cut'able stuff. This can be used to limit what it will cut -- just position yourself so that something tough blocks the line of sight.
2. The moment the SLICER is fired, the game "memorizes" what was shown (red dots) at that moment, and will only cut that, even if you move away while the animation is firing. This sometimes leads to heart attack scenes where you see the animation showing as if it were cutting through something explosive -- but the cut will happen in the originally shown line. The animation is just 'fancy visuals'.
3. The Spark-free demolition charges have an un-intuitive upgrade that "reduces blast range" from 5 meters to 2 meters, then to 1 meter, and then to 0.25meter. You may be wondering "Why would I want LESS blast?" -- that's because what is being reduced is the collateral damage range, not the actual cut of the charges. This is especially important if you want to use demo charges around those big tanker fuel tanks in the middle -- don't try that without one of the two highest upgrades!

Spark-free reduces the actual cut as well, it is just generally worth the loss.
