ETA: And I just read the rest of the comment. Demo charges are the only thing that cuts level 3 points to my knowledge, however they do get upgrades that make the explosion smaller later on.
Not worth it though. At 10,000 a pop, and needing 8-24 for those structures, you'll quickly erase any profit you hoped to make by correctly releasing those parts. Better to just pitch the whole thing into the barge or processor. Unless you're aiming for maximum salvage at all costs, then go for it.
Democharges are a debt trap; 100k/shift when you might use them every 5-8 shifts.
You can get by without using demo charges for quite a long time (I ran through a further 10 ranks before finally unlocking demo charges). They make jobs faster (and necessary for ships like the fuel tanker Javelin if you want 98% salvage).
Most things that have L3 cut points outside have L1 cut points inside the ship for the same components. The issue is having strong enough tethers to move the resulting mass. Ion Rings are the big one for a while (L1 cut point inside; exit and tether into barge avoiding the crash cage).
The recent update made them harder to use though, the blast area got bigger, resulting in more damaged parts.
Yeah I just ran into this. And because of how they tend to work, they're super not worth using most of the time.
Note that the level 3 cut point does split a Barge item from a Processor item, iirc. So the level 1 cut points are sufficient for getting it off the ship and into the barge for most of its value, but you'd have to cut the level 3 spot in order to get the processor half into the processor for full value.
And pro tip.... make sure you are AWAY from the demo charges. That little grid thing is just for showing the cuts of something and not safe zone. I blew the crap outta myself and added to my death count...
