Previous upgrade was bad too since you could no longer safely cut once you get it, but removing it and replacing it with demolitions... well.
Why not just add a power setting to the laser, so once you get the upgrade for more power you can set the power? Would have solved the issue very gracefully.
Charges were introduced because there was a higher power setting to the cutter.
Said setting also couldn't be turned off, so you'd accidentally slice up things you didn't want to, and a lot of players considered it an overall downgrade, and they replaced it with the charges.
I'm not sure why they didn't introduce power settings- there might be some sort of issue with their coding that prevents a downgrade in power like that after an upgrade has been purchased.
I know you used to need demo charges for those larger cut points, but the cutter works on them for me now.
Been playing the game on and off since it launched, and boy. Is it getting even grindier.
200 LP? Seriously? Current three rank system already pays bad enough. I full buffalo and still only getting like 50ish LP per ship with a basic upgrade taking 350.
2000 LP upgrade required to be able to even do a ship? Hrm... guess will go back and play something else. F2P mobile games are less grindy.
Medium Javelins and up have 5 tiers for even more LT, with H7 being 18+36+72+180+450 (756 LT), but those also take a lot more work on the flipside.
It is not realy needed, just makes it easier and more profitable.
I encountered those high grade cut points on the iron rings of javelines in the middle. But you can just remove the mounting thing that connects them to the hull and throw them down the barge with that still attacked. Won't get credits for that mounting piece but it is not that valuable anyways.
Also encountered them on those large 2 piece antennas. But like the ring you can just detach the mount from the inside and throw them in the barge with it attached.
With both I could still reach full score. 3 pips on makarels and 5 pips on javelines easy.
A lot of work isnt an issue. I mean... you are doing what the game intended? So I mean..... that is kinda the point of play.
If the counter to a person saying it is slow and grindy is a singular meta/mathematics? That is bad game design. A person playing and doing stuff well, even if imperfect, should get a reasonable sense of progression. A datadrive should never.... EVER be more points than over half a ship.... or even a complete ship. Those are secondary play collectibles. Their interesting aspect was the lore and narrative as you found as you did what the game is named.
It is Hardspace: Shipbreaker
Not Hardspace: Boxfinder
So yeah, do multiple ships, but I am punished because I am nor heavily looking for or noticing a grey box? Well, back in old save, I quickly got scanner upgrades, letting me find fun stuff like that. But now? I need multiple ships just to get a single scanner upgrade?
That is a bad grind experience. Hey, I like the game. But this update makes is a terrible bore. No objectives, no variety. Work orders gave the benefit of mixing things up and to look for more specific aspects of the ships at least.
Edit: Even the whole concept of indentured servitude feeling is a wrong answer. Because isnt the game to be enjoyed? If a player +90% a salvage, but only gets maybe 1/4 of the way to unlocking something.... then going to go play a game where it feels like I am getting somewhere, at least at some pace.
Yeah, I've just been cutting all those. No idea why you can't. You don't need demo charges for them.
Clip got deleted, probably due to music, so new link: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1016814897?t=1h14m55s
Tethers are your friends....
I tether everything. Not expensive for a stack considering time it saves. I usually need refill when I get new air.
