There are other games in this genre that take a similar repetitive approach without forced end, you could think about Viscera Cleanup Detail, and various mechanic and trucking simulators. It might not be everyone's type of game, but it does fill a niche.
The devs claim to make a distinct IP from their earlier work with Homeworld, choosing to focus on blue-collar labour and slice-of-life without combat elements. A spoke in the wheel approach instead of the usual becoming the cosmic superhero and/or fighting aliens survival thriller.
thanks and makes a lot of sense, now i kind of got a idea why i would pick up the game
We've already seen something like that with Ghost Ships.
There's a 2D platformer game where you scavenge derelict containers in space (sadly I can't remember the name at the moment) with a similar theme. The player character there is heavily in debt and took the job to support his family at home, and the story is told through messages from home when you reach certain milestones.
edit: Found the game, it's Cargo Commander.

Also there is a lot of good humour in the game :)
I was also in doubt if i should get it or not, but i thought ♥♥♥♥ it, ill give it a go..
and its strangely addictive somehow :D
A few simple questions about what you like against the offering of the game will yield an interest curve which we will then place in the approved Lynx Accepto Bot analysis profile system....please wait....

It is fun if you want to be a casual astronaut cutting ships apart in space dock.. Puzzles are good, learning to fly 6 axis can be hard for some folks so expect a learning curve if you have never "flown" like this in games before.
Lots of ways to die if a player is sloppy with dangerous systems, and looks like the Devs are cooking up even more fun stuff that needs an easy touch to get apart and scored for. Frankly it has hours of fun just making things go boom in fun ways...
But when a player get serious about the game it has a lot on offer and the attention to detail to get top scores is rewarded.
The game is still early access but this game IS the cutting and puzzles. this is not a game needing a main storyline written or main parts of code. adding ships adds content but the main part of the game is already built..
There are a few bugs that linger and some features yet delivered,, it has been updated so players coming in now have much more to enjoy than us early folk.
Hope that helps and gave a laugh to everyone who know about...."The Nozzle" venture bros ref...
lol, hmm might pick it up thanks
Not every game needs enemies and combat, and yes its in the same vein, you get contracts to salvage a ship, to earn credits to pay off your debt "long game goal" and to upgrade your gear to make the jobs easier / faster "short goals". When you start getting upgrades and get used to chaining salvage together with tethers physics is fun to play with, slinging scrap around the salvage dock without killing yourself. Also there are time constraints on some to add challenge, various environmental hazards you need to be aware of too, first time in game i blew up a container that blasted me out of the salvage area into the incinerator, fun times
Homeworld,15 years ago - it was wonderful...
It was no one of this type of game and not small revolution on space RTS or RTS anytime. It was one of the good view, how space rts was be.
After many years - Homeworld Remstered - Truly Great Thing.
One of the Greates of Old Remesterd Games at our time.
My Respect for dev team.
Shipbreaker... Unity - Oh,RealY? You Are AAA developers,what the f*ck Unity? I'm don't thik that's your level.
No revolutions.Ugly beggarly source engine for Indy games...and where that's guys, who made anything exactly good, like Homeworld? I'm don't see them here.
What attracted me to this game was that a couple of years ago, before this game is what it is now, I had the vision that Shipbreaker would be played on the desert planet of Kharak, the Kushan Homeworld as a prequel to the story that brought the Kushan exiles back to Hiigara and bring down the oppressing Taiidan Empire, the ancient time before finding the guide stone which led to the creation and construction of the 'Mothership' that was only possible because they found this guide stone in a derelict ship, stranded in the desert.
For fans of the old Homeworld franchise... this game needs no explanation.
Welcome to the fold. :-)
