Gecko vessels - how do you extract the reactor/thrusters?
I've tried a couple times in free play but I never can get the thrusters or reactor free. they're both hooked up to coolant and fuel pipes. I've stripped off most of the shielding, got everything exposed, and used a utility key to flush the fuel (at the terminal right in front of the reactor).

And it always blows up (INSTANT reactor meltdown). And I have no idea why, isn't it supposed to flush the fuel from the pipes so I can safely cut them? Further, I don't know how to possibly work this out. I think I know how to remove the coolant pipe safely (cut it behind the ACS unit, then I can cut it at the reactor to slide that out). But for now I'm stuck.

EDIT: This may be a reported bug, I WAS trying this exclusively with the salvage vessel. I'll try with another vessel class.

Yup. Bug. Works fine on industrial or commercial geckos. I can use a utility key to flush the fuel pipes on any other and cut them whererver. I'm still not sure how to get the class 2 reactors out whole though.

Not sure what exactly you're doing, but if you cut the coolant pipe at the reactor without venting it first, the reactor takes cold damage and blows. You can vent coolant pipes by pulling the front panel off the ECU, and removing the three coolant canisters. You have to pull them off with the grapple, then you can pick them up. (You can pick them up without removing them first, but this does not deactivate the ECU for some reason.) Once both fuel and coolant are off, the timer starts on the reactor, so make sure you have a clear path to extract it. Good luck!

Yeah, that's what I did. Removed the frontpanel from the ECS, removed three small coolant tanks. That starts the countdown like you said. Then cut the coolant pipe quickly at the reactor and started pulling it out.

I'm referring to how the CASING disintegrates and it gives you the 'reactor destroyed' message, even though the core itself is salvagable and counts (3 mil a pop).

Did you send the top and bottom plates (octagonal plates the shielding is attached to) of the reactor to the barge? Those are part of the reactor and barge items.
for the thruster you have to purge the full with the console near the reactor OR you have to do it manually wich can cause issue like flame comming out of the pipe for the reactor you have to remove both fuel and coolant to make a meltdown
