Reactor auto exploding?
I just recently had this happen for the first time. I am scrapping the new science ship, I've remove most of the hull and internals. I've started removing the shell around the reactor while keeping it in place. I then put the key in to drain the fuel which is supposed to set the reactor into a unstable state. Instead it explodes instanly killing me and destroying the small pieces of the ship that I haven't salvaged yet. Is this a new feature where the reactor could explode or a bug?

We're very sorry for the inconvenience caused by this issue.
The devs have been informed and are working on a fix. We also noticed that the issue is less likely to happen if you salvage the reactor a bit earlier in the shift (for example just after removing some pieces of the hull to clear a path).
I hope that can help you for the time being.
Have a nice day !

I had the same thing just now on a Heavy Cargo. I'd already drained the system of fuel, the moment I pulled the coolant the reactor blew up within 5 seconds with a full condition bar

Yeah! It's weird, its almost like the reactor is now acting like the fuel/coolant did where it would spasm randomly and potentially blow up... Not ideal when dealing with a few million dollar part. I literally spent an entire ingame day just prepping to be able to remove the reactor quickly and safely just to have it explode randomly

Did use the key, prepared extraction. Then removed coolant from ECU - insta boom. No idea why - should have entered meltdown but went straight for explosion with Stargazer.

Exactly, I even removed the coolant ahead of time and gave it time to ensure it wasn't coolant based, nope, now Im gonna try again and this time keep the coolant and hope that the instaboom was just it overheating from lack of coolant but from what you said catastrophy, it probably wont matter, gonna accomplish everything except reactor and thrusters just in case it booms again

same. was doing the new science vessel in free mode. key to clear the fuel. had a clear path to the barge. went and removed the coolant from the ECU and was starting to hurry back when it more or less instantly went nova. no controlled degradation. might be a bug?

ok, Can confirm that it is not the reactor blowing up but the pipe that attaches to it. I just pulled the same trick I use on fuel/coolant to ensure it doesn't warp itself into a wall. I was able to pull out the reactor and quickly throw it into the barge. Then the location where the reactor was, still went supernova with no reactor. All that was left was the fuel pipe.

talk about it being 'piping hot'.....

def sounds like a bug then
same here cleared path for reactor vented fuel removed coolant canisters went towards reactor then :bombem: a few seconds later

I removed coolant, then stringered the purple pipe between the thruster and the fuel pipe. Thruster and part of the fuel pipe blew but the reactor could easily be removed.

Similar issue here. I've been unable to pull any reactors from the Stargazer variant because of it.

In my case, I used the key to turn off the fuel, and decided to remove the pipe to get it out of the way so that I could remove the coolant and quickly get the reactor into the barge while it's starting its meltdown process.

Normally, I can use the stinger on the pipe and it'll melt it just fine, no problem, and I can move the pipe out of the way. For some reason, this time, the pipes actually burn, and it blew the coolant and then blew the reactor almost instantly.

I have not yet found a way to dismantle a stargazer securely.

So far about 1/3 of the ship was blown to pieces on each attempt. Getting the reactor out is not a big issue. Getting the ECU out is easy too on its own. One of the ships fell victing to the last of the fuel tanks going wild upon unplugging.

I have yet to find a way to empty coolant pipes without the reactor or the lines going boom.

The cut guards are intersting mechanics to spice up work with your chosen 'tool' bouncing around inside the hull and possibly destroying tanks of fuel/coolant pipes. They make little sense in the places they are attached.

True, I think a removal tool should be added for those covers, where you could either lob something half hazardly for a quick removal or use the tool for a longer but safer process of removing the covers. But something with the coolant/fuel is bugged on the stargazer. It will explode regardless on how you remove the reactor.

I just tried the Gecko Heavy Cargo with this update and the reactor just immediately blows after the fuel lines are emptied with no buildup to a melt-down. The method that worked about 40 times prior to this update does no more.

Just had 4 geckos in a row explode on me. Glad to know it wasn't just me.

It seems like they also fixed the bug that allowed you to cut the square pipe piece attached to the engine without emptying the fuel lines first. Which is fair enough I guess, but the new bug is a serious problem. My next cert requires class 2 reactors so I'm stuck for now.

Sounds like we're all in the same boat. Every Gecko has exploded on me today.
What I want to know is HOW HOW HOW did they not find this bug before releasing the new patch?
This is NOT A SUBTLE BUG. Pull apart ship. SHIP BLOW UP.
I can only assume they did zero testing.
