Why do I need both level 1 and level 2 Work Bench and Furnaces in order to do things

This is something that annoys me...why do I need both lvl 1 and lvl2 of each thing in order to do things. IN ALL THE GAMES IVE PLAYED, the materials and items from the previous level transfers over to the next with a good/decent reduction to build time or material cost, sometimes both.

So WHY, was it needed to keep not only the lvl1 workbench, but need to bounce between both in order to do things...plus the menu inside of menu inside of menu is just down right annoying.

This is something me and my mate picked up on while playing together. Its just hilariously annoying as it means extra work going back and forth and its just inconvenient at the best of times.

Yes, I too was very astonished, that the Smelter II did not replace the Smelter I... and seeing that this is probably the same with all upgrades, it is an unfortunate design decision.

I thought so, too.
Odd at first. But i got around it quickly and now it does not bother me anymore.

Maybe its the different fuel types, or the leemos perks...

My first Leemo got bonus on tier 1 ingots, so i can hook it up to tier 1 smelter. which runs on cheep fuel.

I was about to post the same thing and figured i would search to find if anyone had the same idea. I researched Smelter 2 and immediately demolished Smelter 1 to make room for the larger (and in my mind better) smelter 2. But after building it I saw it did not have the same recipes as Smelter 1, so had to rebuild it. With the steam engine down on the upgraded 1st wagon, I now have everything else crammed in on the upgraded 2nd wagon and wondering why I need 2 smelters???

Smelter, Lab, and Workbench II doesn't make the same stuff as lvl 1's. Like in another sandbox game you need the small constructor with the large or advance constructor simply the large and advance missing one recipe you need to survive.

point of this game is to expand your train, thats why you need more and more tables, if it enough lvl 2 only, then there is no reason to extend your train

It's a survive and build game though. I have so many crafting tables that I don't have a cart that I can just design a cool looking room. At least not yet, just got the game and just about done with phase 20 on the research bench. still though, there is barely even room for wall lights and desk type lamps I can't place on anything, so whats the point in those? Maybe I haven't found the correct table they can be placed on?
