Drop Corpse container on death!
As the game is right now dying is somewhat frustrating as depending on what terrain you die on items from your body may just fall through the floor or under some floor grating if you are at a station. Additionally I found that running into your dropped loot lets you kick it around like corpses, a behaviour no other material exhibits and it makes it very easy to loose expensive items as you kick them into foliage or corners where the item may no longer be collectable due to how narrow picking up items from floors is.
(As a side note enemy drops could use a more generous pickup area as enemies behind cover often drop their loot into the cover)

I would go as far as to say that the entire concept of the player's equipement falling on the ground is not worth it, from a game-design standpoint.

All it causes are issues where players risk losing progress because the loot glitches through the ground, because physics push the loot away or because it gets left behind beyond the rail-stopper that prevents you from driving your train in reverse (which is my personal experience).

For a while, I actually believed the game randomly deleted one thing upon death as a punishment. Lost my leather vest that way, it must've glitched through the ground enough so that I couldn't see it.

And all that for what reason?
"Oh you died? Here, let's make it harder for you to not die again from the same thing!"

If the loot falling has to stay, however, yes, it should generate a decently-sized box on which the player cannot climb (to avoid exploits) which disappears as soon as you've emptied it.

I think removing the death animation altogether would make dying a bit too risk free at least when in combat at the outposts/stations but it would certainly avoid loosing ones loot behind the rail blocker, although the loot container could possibly be configured to be retrieved by the ghost Rofleemo and placed somewhere within currently accessible bounds should it become inaccessible by the player.

In addition i also agree that the container should preferably not have a collision box to avoid the players from reaching restricted areas.

Something has to be done either way.
Every single time I die, I lose something.
Here, just now :

The items are under the ground, I can see the glow effect, but I can't get it.
