All it causes are issues where players risk losing progress because the loot glitches through the ground, because physics push the loot away or because it gets left behind beyond the rail-stopper that prevents you from driving your train in reverse (which is my personal experience).
For a while, I actually believed the game randomly deleted one thing upon death as a punishment. Lost my leather vest that way, it must've glitched through the ground enough so that I couldn't see it.
And all that for what reason?
"Oh you died? Here, let's make it harder for you to not die again from the same thing!"
If the loot falling has to stay, however, yes, it should generate a decently-sized box on which the player cannot climb (to avoid exploits) which disappears as soon as you've emptied it.
In addition i also agree that the container should preferably not have a collision box to avoid the players from reaching restricted areas.
Every single time I die, I lose something.

The items are under the ground, I can see the glow effect, but I can't get it.
