I'm interested in this game for it's unique setting, but people who have been playing the game through epic games seem to say it's pretty much the game "Raft" but without the automatic gathering.
I don't mind doing a bit of grinding early on to get my setup running but if the whole game revolves around gathering that sounds like a very time consuming and repetetive gameplay loop imo.
Crafting is also a bit cumbersome since you have to go to the workstation, select what you want to craft, select amount, click craft, then wait for it to finish, then exit the workstation UI, pick the item up, then open the workstation UI again, then select another item to craft. There's no queue, you can't craft another item until you pick up the previous one, and all in all it's a lot of clicks and busywork to get the materials you need for research and then the same materials again for building.
So far I have not been enjoying the game very much. A lot of work to get anything done (manual resource collection then crafting with a pretty bad UX), and very few interesting decisions Everything including the research is pretty much linear, you have to finish all the phase 1 research before you can progress to phase 2, and so on.
I will say that you'll end up finding gathering materials to be less of an issue later than storage, as you'll find a ton of materials that you don't need but only a few of the ones you do. I have so much wood and iron in my game that I just toss it. Coal and Acid are the ones that I will back up the train for if I miss them.
Yes, the new update will include automatic resource collection using special train modules and pets (once your train and technology reach a certain stage). You can read more about it in this article: https://steamcommunity.com/games/1159690/announcements/detail/3727335291819405448
Had nothing to do with my ADD lol. Cain't wait to play on the 9th.
