how to use junk?

in the newest update soldiers will start dropping "junk" items on death, anyone know how to use them?

Via workbenches/smelters etc, as an alternative way of crafting items

I love the game. That was not a very intuitive choice however. There is also no explanation in game. Even the description makes you think it goes in the recycler. I didnt press the icons in the smelter because the natural conclusion when you look at it, is that you can melt your ingots back to scrap there.

Another major hang up i had was the mission, research basic defense. Took me an hour trying to figure it out, then being frustrated and looking it up. To discover the addition was added to phase 1. Would have never thought to look there. Its a great game. Can't wait to see what else you guys have in store.

I also love the game but have some questions, about this junk, wiki says to break down in recycler, but when you try to it says it cannot be recycled. How do I use this junk? I have tried to use it at work benches as an alternative to Ingots, but that still does not work, the junk items are not recognized. Any suggestions or solutions to this issue?

There's a tab just for crafting resources out of junk/scrap items.
