Crash at startup

The game worked fine before, but since yesterday it won't start. Using the Event Viewer shows that it seems to be due to an unhandled exception:

What I have tried so far:

* Uninstalling/Reinstalling
* Verifying game file integrity
* Disabling steam overlay/steam cloud
* Deleting my saves with steam cloud disabled
* Running the game with all kinds of display options (by modifying the ini files)
* Running the game with all kinds of compatibility options (admin privileges, windows 8 compat, etc.)
* Restarting the computer

Of course

* Drivers are up to date
* Computer is largely powerful enough for the game
* I have already tried all of the solutions listed online, but nothing works

Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I could fix this issue and keep playing the game?

Well in the end I solved it literally 2 minutes after writing this message, but I have no idea how. I restarted the computer one more time, no update or anything, and now it works.

If it happens to anyone else, sorry but I have no clue what could help you but to keep trying I guess.
