I have no fix to offer (yet, anyway) but at least now I know what to avoid. Thank you very much.
Perhaps something like SpecialK, which if I recall correctly is able to hide keyboard and mouse inputs from games...
All you need to do is go to the Input Management section, Enable/Disable Devices, check "Disable Mouse Input to Game".
Unfortunately this will prevent any and all mouse input, but the game is fully playable both with controllers and with the keyboard, and it completely prevents any accidental scroll.
Putting in an external USB mouse fixed it for me. Tested today and played for HALF of a case without it happening. Didn't have to disable my touchpad either!! In fact I still used it occasionally and it still didn't crash, vs before I did this it was crashing every ten minutes.
I would bet it would also work with a bluetooth mouse. *Or disabling the mouse input to the game*
After having issues with the text moving too quickly and control issues plus this, I've decided to refund.
