Excommunication

Man another annoyance. Why if I have the pope puppetted can't I just have him lift my excommunition? I still have to petition, and he moved his capitol while i was travelling and now I'm locked out for 4 more years.

You can. Right click yourself, switch to your Clerical Puppet Interactions, and choose the "Lift Excommunication" interaction.

I could have sworn I tried that. I’m fully aware of that menu. The point is probably mute now anyway as I was fed up and declared an antipope.

Legit did the exact same thing after my puppet decided out of nowhere to excommunicate me. I can't recall exactly but the pope might've been my realm priest puppet (because they were on my council as my realm priest), but it was still stupid regardless. Now I'm just stuck with a pope and antipope, because both of them are my vassals.

Edit: I have fixed it by giving the Pope an empire title, usurping it, usurping him with my antipope, and I am back to square one with the Pope as my realm priest puppet who can still excommunicate me.

Strong hook on the head of faith usually fixes it. They have to agree to lift excommunication and they cannot excommunicate you, murder you, imprison you, abduct you while you have a strong hook on them.

Note: If the pope is artibrary he can get rid of the strong hook at will. Artibrary is very powerful when playing pope because no one can get hooks on you and keep them.
