The "buy estate" action is ♥♥♥♥♥♥
I spend 1000 gold to buy an estate in China for the landless into minister achievement, and as soon as I unpause, I get a game over screen.

Apparently, this issue has been around for like 2 years now and the morons good people at Paradox haven't done anything about it.

Is there a way to get this to work, or should I just give up on my run?

I know some people have the Grand Governor achievement already so that should mean there is some method of getting an estate or otherwise become a vassal to the Chinese Hegemony as landless. Unless those people all cheated in order to get it...

It's a new bug with the All Under Heaven patch; I've bought an estates dozens of times in previous patches. You read one bug report from a couple of years ago and jumped to calling the devs morons and everyone with the achievement a cheater. Sometimes, similar bugs reappear; that doesn't mean they've existed uninterrupted for years.

Ask for an Invasion Sponsorship, then declare war on your target and take a title; you will become a vassal to the Emperor with Celestial government. If the Emperor won't approve your Invasion Sponsorship, then just seize land from someone through war, swear fealty to the Emperor, then convert to Celestial government via decision. Otherwise, you can wait for China to fracture, seize some land, Claim the Mandate of Heaven, and land a family member who isn't your heir. Afterwards, die, and choose to play as that family member.

The Grand Governor achievement only requires you to start as Landless; you can make your way into the empire's bureaucracy through any method after that. Buying an Estate was never a requirement for the achievement. In fact, the obvious intention of the achievement is to start in as a landless Noble Family, not an Adventurer. Starting as an Adventurer is a valid way to obtain the achievement, but obviously not the intended path.

I didn't call anyone a cheater, I asked if that was how people got the achievement.
Do you understand the difference between a question and a statement..?

However, I DID mistake the version(s) this bug was reported in. I foolishly thought I could trust Google's Gemini AI to give me a straight answer, but now that I specifically asked if it was CERTAIN the bug existed in 1.19 it did a u-turn.

Gemini is the definition of convenience at the expense of accuracy.
I really need to learn not to trust clankers.
