Of Legends and Consistency. Rurik, you are Fake News!
So... I started my test run for "Legends of the dead" and while i am still bitter of the -300 legitimacy event just because my marshal is not very competent (hey, you do with what you have at the start of the game), what surprised me the most is a world legend.

The legend is about King Rurik "the troublemaker" of Novgorod. The Legend "Gothic Kings" claim that he, A Russian slovianskan man, of scandinavian origin, is supposed to be "born of a great Gothic lineage to rule Empire of Hispania" and that "With tremendous labor, King Rurik of Novgorod worked tiressly to turn Empire of Hispania into a vision of Gothic perfection. Thanks only to the legendary deeds of Rurik, the People of Empire of Hispania cry out in pride of their Gothic roots!"

So... i'm not an expert but... on what basis does Rurik can claim this legend? I have absolutly no problem with leader blattlantly claiming anything they can come up with, but come on we are in 880 AD, the Goth leaved poland almost 7 centuries ago. what ties this guys with Hispania? I mean, i would understand if the Asturleones king had the claim, but Rurik...

I can't help but feel this is completly random... which would be fine if the legend was not so utterly specific. Why mention hispania at all, he is in russia right now...

Am i the only one who feel that way?

So any scandinavian leader can claim he himself pacified the peninsula in 880, even if there is literraly nothing that tie him to iberia? It seem far fetch.

I mean, why would you even come to that legend? European leaders know that there is still a struggle in iberia, and that Rurik or his scandinavian friend are not involved in any shape or form. Imagine the king of France, who is fighting his 6th struggle clash because his son married a princess of Leon, hearing that... And even for those who don't know what's going on in Iberia, right now, Rurik is not emperor of Hispania, he is "only" king of Novgorod. How do we explain that he lost the title?

Of course, i don't need the legend to be true of course, that the point of legends. But at least some consistency. I could have accepted the "comes from a prestigious gothic lineage", even for Rurik. But the "worked to turn Empire of hispania into a gothic vision of perfection" part is way too specific to be believable... I would understand if it was linked to gotic heritage, or, why not, a scandinavian who has land in iberia (that would be a nice campaign), but just to tie it with a scandinavian heritage seam a bit weak...
