5k gold for 2.5k Merc army....

The fourth ruler generation I began with Alfred, now on greek culture and I have my own religion ( head of faith ). The currently the year is 1066, and I was unable to find any evidence of anyone complaining about outrages prices could be a bug?

They have this price because they are the Varangian guard(Vkings who fought for the byzantine empire). Thing is, they are no different from any basic mercenary group(in game, since in real life they were actually very strong etc).
So yeah there is no reason for that price because they have no strengths game-wise that justify that, just buy the ''regular'' merc and it should be the same thing

Edit:in my opinion, it would be better if they were a special MAA for the byzantine empire(or greek culture), not some overpriced merc group with nothing added but the special name. Sometimes the commander of the varangian guard mercs doesnt even have the varangian guard trait...

Sure it makes difference in price, but this is exactly my point. If it were any other merc company with exactly the same composition, the price would be lower... Its overpriced because its the varangian mercs, which dont have anything special

cmon this expensive AF! 5k in the YEAR 1066 it's A LOT OF MONEY.
Many patches ago was like 800 to 1k gold max 2k. Could it be because a have so many titles?

Varangians are THE strongest heavy infantry in the game by an excessively long mile.
They are so strong that using any other HI is suboptimal play.
Although I would advice to throw at least a huscarl regiment in the mix (2 Var, 1 Hus).

(Winter: toughn +6, scr +6)
Counters: spearmen, archers
-Varangian: 58-43-10-5
(terrain: farm dam +6, toughn +4, plain dam +6, thoughn +4, hills dam +6 thoun +4.
Counters: spearmen, heavy cavalry.

So yeah, it's certainly warranted the extra costs.
