It is what it is. Fighting the Northerners. I hardly notice injuries and what not with knights in battles. Some have complained since September 2020 about it happening too much. I either don't fight them enough to notice or don't notice anyway when we do fight.

I had two go down in one fight and three total in one war. You are right though, they won't change it.

It's to emulate the dangers of the Northmen. I'm glad they have that, it makes their raids and conquests that much scarier. Your valuable knights are more at stake when fending off those Norse raids. I don't recall them getting it after they Christianize so it's only a limited time terror. It adds to the vibe of the times. Playing in England or Ireland I especially enjoy it, the devils come from all angles. The ways they get their kills is mostly for flavor text, but I focus on that fact that my people are getting slaughtered in these battles. Even when they aren't huge wars. I'm always in fear when we fight because I can lose someone really important.

That Northern Lords flavor pack causes the Norse to make some very powerful knights including berzerkers which seem to be able to insta-kill enemy knights and shiendmaidens if you want female knights. One thing that's interesting is that the shieldmaidens aren't restricted to that religion the Norse follow. You can start as Hastein and convert to being Catholic and make Catholic shieldmaidens.

Played k's of hours of CK2 and perhaps even CK3 aswell.
Historically setting? Sure
Historical game? Not after you have pressed play. Matter of fact not even really before you pressed play.

There are mods that make CK more historically accurate but the simple fact, irl we simple don't have all the data. I'd say pdx has done a great deal of research with what we're getting.

So no, I never felt CK3 (or CK2 for that matter) was a serious game nor do I think that was/is the intent.
It's a game, enjoy it for what it is; entertainment.

I guess if we wanted to rationalize it, let's just say it's a battle report and noone wants to write home about their noble commander bleeding out in a ditch.
