Which "Ethnicity" is the Iberians?

As far as the game options are concerned, what ethnicity are Iberians? I would assume West/Central european but am not certain. Is there a way to know which one they are in the game's datafiles? I know it doesn't matter mechanically but i'm trying to create/roleplay my character as authentic as possible.

If it is about roleplaying, then ignore West and better put Mediterranean. I am Spanish, and find the most similar countries to me Portugal, Italy, and Greece. France are also latin ethnic, but culturally are different (maybe Central Europeans?).

Under /common/culture/cultures/00_iberian.txt

All default iberian cultures are "10 = mediterranean", while andalusian additionally has "10 = arab"

To my knowledge that is only for the ethnic DNA of generated characters, like when a travelling NPC is created for an event, or a new court is created by granting a title to a previously unlanded character.




BTW if you play with the EPE mod, it doesn't only add much more and better outfits, but it also has dozens of ethnicity presets for almost every individual culture, or at least culture group if they look very similar.

Helps a lot if you want to have a decent starting point for a custom ruler.

Iberia was settled by Visigoths. Visigoths are essentially a sub culture of Goths (Early Franks). Visigoths were NOT Mediterranean. When I did my 867 play through using Barcelona, I capped the Majorca duchy and then converted to Catalan. Why? 1, No one was leading the culture, allowing me to take charge as the culture head and 2, Catalan has better succession laws...at least when I did my run... not sure if all other Visigoth cultures also have them. (I play on PS5 which has older everything)

So once I remembered I can create a religion my plan to stay historically authentic completely effing imploded.

So now i'm creating a Holy Monarch, annointed by an Angel to conquer the Iberian Peninsula...and then the world. He will annoint his followers "The Hounds of God" and venerate the wolf as a holy beast.

I'm seriously tempted to search for a Werewolf mod now, but once I start down THAT rabbit hole i'll never get anything done so i'm keeping it vanilla for now.

So now i'm renaming my starter province Lupus Dei, and need a gramar nazi to help me figure out what the adjective form of that is. That's more romanic latin though, I guess. Is there a better Iberian version of that?

I technically haven't even really started yet and i'm blown away at how rapidly my plans crumbled down around me here....

Trying to remember my schoolboy Latin...I think you are correct that Lupus Dei could be the the Wolf God, but because nominative and genitive are the same in the case of "lupus" it could also be "The Wolf of God." I believe it is the Dominicans who are called Canes Dei: the Hounds of God, if that helps and I've remembered right...

edit: Aha! I have finally spotted your mistake: Lupus Dei is the Wolf OF God (Dei = genitive form of Deus = OF God. The Wolf God would, I think, be Lupus Deus.

In my post above, I pulled straight from English to Latin translator. 1- IF I had a question for Latin, I'd take it there. 2- IF I wanted to have a religion, in CK3, which worship nature, animals, or whatever, there is a plethora of pagan religions to which, you can reform to fit a more specific aspect.

armyissue: Not criticising you or your helpful post. But just factually, Lupus Dei is the Wolf of God.

English is a very unusual language because we've lost most of our grammatical word endings and use prepositions to do the job, largely because Scandinavians invaded Saxon kingdoms and they spoke very similar languages - apart from the word endings. Put Celtic place names on top of that and you end up with Bredon Hill, which, if I've remembered right if you translate that into modern English, comes out as Hillhill Hill! 0-0

Only partially true. Visigoths were just 10% population, while Hispanorromans were 90%. Once muslims arrived Visigoths and Hispanorromans mixed and forgot their distinction. Also, some African ethnics were mixed with the first two ones during muslim conquest and posterior Reconquista.
