Declaring war on fellow vassal
I'm a vassal under the Holy Roman Empire and I have a claim on a county held by another vassal of my level. When I declare war, I can't declare it against my fellow vassal, but only against my liege. As far as I can tell, the realm is under limited crown authority, so I should be able to fight my fellow vassals? I don't understand why the game keeps making me declare war against the Emperor who just steamrolls me.

Are you sure HRE is under limited crown authority and not just your kingdom?

That happens when you and him have different lieges. Like he's a vassal of another vassal. You need to find the vassal that he's a vassal of and declare war on that vassal. Then you can take land from his vassal if you win.
Hey did you ever find out was caused this? We are running into the same thing 3 years later in the Byzantines

the UI could make this sort of information easier to see, Right now it almost feels hidden and comes off as wonky as hell
?
Should be to the right of your Crown Atthority thingy on the Domain Screen.
As a crown icon with a number inside it.... under the words, "My Liege".
