Research and read reviews before you pick one, opinions and tastes are subjectives. I've probably forgotten many, the Turn-Based genre is going through a revival and there is quite some gems out there to pick or at least try...
S: king arthur (knights tale and legion IX), reverse collapse
A: druidstone, disgaea 5, battle brothers, xcom2, into the breach, gears tactics, last spell, showgunners
B: xcom enemy within, troubleshooter, divinity original sin 2, tactical breach wizards, mutant year zero, shardpunk, steamworld heist 1
C: divinity original sin, solasta
D: crown wars
No opinion : Banner saga trilogy, capes, crawl tactics, dungeon of naheulbeul, expeditions series, mordheim, our adventurers guild, fae tactics, hard west series. miasma chronicles, steamworld heist 2, banner saga trilogy
Reverse collapse has less replay value than KAKT and slightly worse combat, but is twice as long and actually has a good narrative.
Darkest Dungeon
is relatively similar to King Arthur: Knight's Tale in that you upgrade a settlement with the various building, you level up and equip a band of heroes, and you take on dungeons.
Battle Brothers
this as well has that "camaraderie" feeling (as the title suggests) as you lead a band of mercenaries from nothing to hopefully riches and glory
Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters
this one is closer to XCom
Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader
this one I haven't tried but is on my radars
You should also look into CRPG with turn based combat - the strategic side of gameplay is the same, although it gets mixed with a deeper roleplaying element and lot of conversation/reading
I'll mention a few:
Pathfinder: Kingmaker
Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous
Pillars of Eternity 2
Baldur's Gate 3
Divinity: Original Sin (beware cringe humor)
Divinity: Original Sin 2
Wasteland 2
Wasteland 3
Shadowrun: Returns
Shadowrun: Dragonfall
Shadowrun: Hong Kong
UnderRail
And then you might want to look into Roguelikes - in these you play a single character and not a party, but aside for the obvious diferences, the core turn-based strategy element is still there so it might end up scratching the same itch:
Tales of Maj'Eyal
Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead
Rogue's Tale
Cogmind
Caves of Qud
Sword of the Stars: The Pit
Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup
But if you simply want to stay closer to something like HoMM3, then:
Age of Wonders 3
Disciples 2
King's Bounty: The Legend
King's Bounty: Armored Princess
(and many more I haven't played or I'm not remembering right now)
For some anime themed strategy:
Valkyria Chronicles
Valkyria Chronicles 4
Oh, and I almost forgot to mention:
Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive
Desperados 3
Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun
(although these last 3 are not turn based anymore...)
Phantom Doctrine
XCOM: Chimera Squad
Phoenix Point
WH 40k: Mechanicus
Templar Battleforce
Ash of Gods games (they use similar combat mechanic than Banners Saga games)
I liked a lot the story in the Banner Saga's games but the combat mechanics in them is quite particular and requires an adaptation time...
This is why I originally bought Banner Sagas and Ash of Gods I have played turn based games so long that I wanted something really unique. Another pretty unique turn based combat game is Hard West 1 and 2. It uses same engine than XCOM games but mechanics are completely different.
But I admit that games that uses unique mechanics instead of how turn based games traditionally work might not be for everyone.
