Noob question: how to choose party members?
I assume I can only bring 4 at a time. So, how do I actually select which of my (currently) 6 heroes to bring?

In team RPGs, and a lot of them originate from Dungeon&Dragons set of rules, the traditional way is to have one tank (Defender here) who protects the team by taking a lot of the enemies melee hits, a DPS damage-per-second hero, who mostly hits the enemies and a healer.

In this game, we have defenders (tank), champions (tank/dps), archers, arcanists (mages), vanguards (rogues) and sages. The defender is the tank and the sage is supportive by buffing the team and even heal them (you will get them later in the game). The others are DPS heroes with different flavours. For example, archers and arcanists are ranged and vanguard can hide and then jump from enemy to enemy, kill them and then hide again, so as he doesn't get attacked.

Furthermore, the team mates have some synergies. One hero can debuff an enemy (Mordred hexes them and makes them vulnerable) and the others can kill them easier. Later someone can burn them and another one hits harder with an arrow or stg.
So read the skills description to identify the synergies.

Of course, very important is how you like to play and to role-play. Also what heroes you prefer and how you like to fight. You will get a lot of heroes in the game (around 30) and you must have 2-3 teams of them ready to go on missions.
My main team is Mordred, Balin, Lady Dindraine and Guinivere or Sir Ector. I am trying to incorporate Merlin mostly for RP reasons (I love the character in the legend). I've also recently got two interesting ones, Fairy Knight and Bouadicea, but there's some problems with their loyalty.

Almost forgot, in this game you have alignments on the Christian-Old Faith and Rightful-Tyrant axes. You must choose between the four sets (I am Christian Rightful) and stick to it, because later you will get some powerful heroes depending on your alignment.

You can finish game by starting heroes: Mordred, Ector, Balin and Dindraine. This is pretty balanced team which have enough control, tanking, range dps and melee dps.

In general you just need to choose your playstyle and pick heroes for it. But it will be hard to understand which heroes do you need during first playthrough.

For example, you want to destroy enemies by blob of highly armored knights. So you should know that Sir Key does not suit such team because he have not tanking abilities. He suites ranged team. You can find combos like Lady Guinevere + Sir Geraint allows you to receive +2 AP buff each turn (which also will reduce cooldowns).

Thank you guys very much! But I actually meant how do I literally select which heroes to bring with me on a mission. I figured it out though.

For posterity, you can't do it on character screens or in Camelot but only once a mission is already selected. There will be party slots above the mission quest text, and you can drag and drop your preferred champions there.

No question is a silly question - only the children here make those comments.
You just right click on the knight you want to join the mission, or drag and drop. Unless the character is on a mission, in training or in the Hospice being treated you will have a full team of four.
