Overwatch Useless?
The enemy literally skips its turn if they're all under overwatch. lol. What's the point of building around it if you can't take advantage of it? Or maybe I'M the stupid one. How does one "force" the AI into moving into an overwatched area? I mean, it does trigger sometimes, but it's gotta be under certain conditions that the enemy will take that chance? I just played one encounter where I "stun locked" the ambushers that spawned behind me where my ranged units are. I just overwatched them the whole time while my melee units took care of the frontal assault. I think the AI is too smart.

Speaking of overwatch, does the enemy not use overwatch on normal difficulty? I've never seen it being used by them, and I'm in act 3.

Yes, melee overwatch is almost useless, enemy usually stops 1 tile away.

Enemy does not use overwatch even on last difficulty.

I was surprised overwatch becomes useful in Legion IX game, probably it has different AI.

I routinely use overwatch with melee units and the enemy tries to close almost every time and triggers it. It might be situational. I use it in close melee range when units are already engaging.

Oddly, I don't recall ever using the ranged overwatch.

Or maybe it's the difficulty level. I'm only playing on normal difficulty.

It is possible to have ranged overwatch with 1AP per attack, it is quite fun even if not very efficient.

I found it best just to save the AP for your next turn.

So after spamming overwatch after making this post, there seems to be some rhyme or rhythm. I just can't pin it down. Mainly using ranged overwatched. Defenders and champions are more likely to risk the overwatch especially if they can attack a hero in the same turn. In fact, maybe that's the condition. If they CAN attack they're going to try: even if it means their death. Seen plenty of people die under overwatch trying to use their weapons against one of my own. Speaking of, overwatch is even activated when an enemy attacks not just moves (maybe this is normal, I can't remember anymore actually. At first I thought most other turn-based games had overwatch activate only on movement, but now i'm questioning that thought...)

In some games overwatch is cancelled if unit takes any damage.

Okay. I....that's irrelevant to what I was saying, but thanks for sharing.

I meant this is probably why you were surprised overwatch is triggered by attacking. Many games cancel overwatch when attacked so overwatch is triggered by movement only.

Hm. I guess I was confused because the enemies aren't attacking the overwatching hero, which is, from my experience, when overwatched gets cancelled.
