Blood Money: event need to either be more accepting or have less vague description

Little bit of context : when I started act 2, I have decided to rush main story a bit, before doing side missions. Mostly to get Merlin to join ASAP, as i am Rightful-Old Faith so Ector's morale was falling. So, third mission i entered at level 8 with a bit outdated items. As a result Balan get a injury and significant vitality damage. Not a problem, I thought, replaced him with Tristan and went to main mission 4 to get Merlin. Then it happened, Blood Money event. Send a strong champion to defeat Pict Chieftain in duel, it said. Well, sir Kay, you are a strong champion, while Balan is still healing, go get victory against Picts.

Well, it did not end successfully. More, wiki says that event asks specially for sir Balin - who is both vanguard, not a champion, and not at my court. And my last save is during mission so can not be loaded without trait loss from Mordred, even if Keeper of Excalibur seems o not work correctly currently - 2 relics, no damage increase.

So event needs to be either more clear or more accepting, never did it hint that it needs that particular vanguard.
